🐾New Puppy Owners - read this!
My top 5 things to know before you bring home your new puppy!
1️⃣ Protect Your Puppy From Germs
They aren’t fully protected until they’ve had 4 rounds of distemper/parvo + rabies/bordetella.
-No rest areas/dog parks etc…
Use disposable potty pads in your vehicle for potty breaks if you’re traveling.
-No walks yet. Keep your puppy only on your own grass/ground until fully vaccinated.
-Limit handling. Too many people = too many germs and too much stress.
-Only let dogs you personally know and that are fully vaccinated around your pup.
-Do not put your puppy on the ground at the vet office
2️⃣ Give Them Time to Adjust
Your puppy is leaving their mama, littermates, routine, and familiar surroundings. This is a huge change for them and they need time to adjust to their new surroundings and family.
A little stress and crying is normal and can temporarily affect appetite, stool, and sleep.
3️⃣ Crate Training Is Key
We start the foundation here, but consistency at home is what makes it stick.
Puppies may cry at first, but crate training is the foundation of potty training and raising a confident, well-rounded dog.
4️⃣ Have a Play Pen
Having a safe place for your puppy to play when you can’t give your full attention is important. Chewing on random things in the house can be very dangerous for a puppy. It also helps prevent potty accidents. Puppies don’t naturally understand where to go, and giving them too much freedom too soon almost guarantees they’ll sneak off and p*e somewhere. A playpen or gated area keeps them in sight, reinforces your potty-training routine, and helps them learn the right habits from the start.
5️⃣ Teach your Kids
We are a kid-based breeding program, and all of our puppies are raised around our children. We focus heavily on breeding for calm, family-friendly temperaments.
However, even with a well-raised puppy, it’s still your job as the parent to teach your child how to properly interact with and handle a dog. Puppies need gentle hands, boundaries, and respectful behavior from kids to grow into safe, confident family companions.
