Summit Canine Performance Coaching Exclusive, personalized coaching for the dog agility enthusiast. Darcy Ernat has been involved with dogs since she was a small child.

Her parents owned a dog boarding, training, and grooming facility in Illinois for nearly 20 years. In addition to being highly involved with the family business, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in zoology. You can say her love of animals runs in her blood! In 2009 though, Darcy got her first Border Collie, Tripp. She began to explore the world of dog sports. Together, Darcy and Tripp became verse

d in herding, mastering trick training, disc dog, and eventually dog agility. It was the sport of agility that really got them excited. Within a couple of years of beginning their competitive career, they went to their first national event and worked their way to the finals. Eventually Darcy had to pause the dog training hobby to focus on advancing her career. One Master’s Degree and two moves later, she is here in Durango with her husband and their pack of 3. They reside on 14 acres just South of Durango. Last Spring, Darcy fulfilled her dream of creating her own agility training space on their newly acquired slice of Heaven. It only seemed appropriate to give this space a name and begin to offer the community a unique opportunity to come together for the love of the wildly addictive sport of dog agility. At Summit Canine Performance Center, our focus is to provide an uplifting learning environment and help teams develop skills that will take them as far as they want to go. Darcy comes to the area with an undying passion for the sport and many years of experience. Her foundation is rooted in Linda Mecklinburg’s Awesome Paws system, but Darcy has her eye on those performing at the highest levels in dog agility and continues to study current trends in the rapidly evolving sport. With her open minded approach to training and handling and eagerness to learn from the very best, she hopes to bring a new level of skill and excitement to the area. She is currently competing with her 8 year old Border Collie, Lolo and training her up and coming 10 month old Border Collie, Cosmo. Summit Canine Performance Center is a gathering place for those wanting an elevated relationship with their dog, a positive and safe learning environment, and to challenge their current level of knowledge and skill. We are THE premier dog agility training center in the four corners region.

Thoughts from an FCI judge on course design to improve safety for dogs.. sadly highlights flaws in the most popular design trends in US Agility. Again, I encourage you to choose safety for your dogs. Use your dollars to support organizations and clubs that are pushing for modern/safe designs and use your voice to push for dog safety. Research is showing that poor course design diminishes the longevity of your dog’s competition years! Advocate for your dog, because they can’t advocate for themselves 💕

Course Design Safety: You are responsible for your dogs safety. Period.

I hope you will take the time to review these links and photos to better understand SOME design elements that are UNSAFE. As agility competitors, it is 100% our responsibility to make wise choices for our dogs. Therefore, it is your duty to stay up to date with information we obtain as we progress on the sport when it pertains to dog safety.

You may also notice that there are unsafe design elements in this post that are still very often used in courses depending on the venue you show in. So what do you do? Write to the organization and tell them why you are concerned and that you would like to see change in the design rules that support dog safety. Hosting trials? PLEASE, SELECT JUDGES KNOWN FOR SAFE COURSE DESIGN! Tell clubs that you want them to use SAFE and UPDATED equipment and judges who prioritize DOG SAFETY. It is time to stop chasing ribbons and titles at the expense of the safety of our dogs.

Educate yourself, demand the best for your canine companion, and speak with your dollars!

Have you assessed your training and competition schedule lately? Is it possible you’re asking too much from your dog? Are you appropriately preparing them for the physical demands of the sport, not only with physical conditioning but by allowing them the rest they need to recover after training or competing?

Please read this informative article on overtraining. You don’t have to train everyday and you shouldn’t be trialing as much as you might think.

“Your dog only has so many jumps in their life.” If you need any additional guidance on developing a training and competition strategy that helps you meet your goals, but also keeps your dogs safe, I can help you with that too.

Many of us are agility addicts. We structure aspects of our lives around our hobby, and select dogs specifically for agility. We spend evenings at club, weekends at shows, and have lot's of dog agility friends who understand our passion. There's online classes, lessons, workshops. There really are s...

Have you noticed that your dog doesn’t seem too excited about their “reward?”
Do you "cheerlead" as they casually trot around the agility course?
Does your dog leave training to go sniff or find other things to do?
Or do you have a young dog with which you don't want to make the "same old mistakes" with?
If you can relate to any of these things, this workshop is for you. Join me Wednesday evening (5:30pm - 7:30pm), JUNE 28th to learn how your dog WANTS to play. Find out how to motivate and have more fun with them with better reward strategies! Auditing and working spots available. All skill levels welcome. Message me to reserve your spot!

Wow! We really just had *the* most incredible weekend here in Durango. Thank you so much Anna for taking the chance and making the trip to Southwest Colorado to share your brilliance on canine conditioning and fitness. I appreciate everyone who showed up to support us over the weekend; this would not have been possible without you. I truly mean that. It was extra cool to have attendees fly in from as far as Pittsburg, PA and San Antonio, TX! I’m so grateful for the first class instruction Anna provided us. I believe all of our dogs will benefit greatly from the skills and knowledge acquired under her guidance. Thanks so you much Canine Conditioning Coach for your time, energy, and for sharing your expertise with us! In hope we can do it again!
