ot afford to get haircuts on a regular basis. So, at 15 years old, I saved up my money and purchased my first pair of clippers. No formal training, I learned to cut my own hair and eventually opened shop on my front porch giving $3.00 haircuts to guys in my neighborhood. Many who like me could not afford regular barbershop haircuts. I had grown men feeling like they could conquer the world after receiving one of my $3.00 haircuts. I remember guys walking away with the confidence to go for a job interview or promotion. I recall giving a haircut to a gentleman who was recently released from prison after several years. After leaving my porch he had his chin up and chest out walking tall to handle his business. To see a shell of a man, transform into a conquering lion with just a modest haircut and beard trim. I realized that how a man presents himself matters. Taking time for self-care is paramount in improving self-esteem and confidence. I wasn't sure at that time what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew it would involve building confidence in my brothers. A man with his head up, feeling good about himself is worth more to his community, thus the idea that confidence is currency. That is what our brand is about, self-care that makes a man feel like a king so that he has the confidence to create the world that he desires.
