We’re fully donation-funded—offering safety, love, and a second chance. Hope and Hooves Rescue & Sanctuary is a nonprofit safe haven for farm animals in need—especially those often overlooked, like goats, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, and more. Our mission is to rescue animals from the auction pipeline, neglect, abandonment, and other situations where their safety and well-being are at risk. Eve

ry animal we welcome receives a loving home where they are respected, cared for, and never exploited again. Located in Perry County, we believe every life matters—no matter how small. Through rescue, education, and community support, we’re building a more compassionate world one life at a time. Follow us to meet our residents, hear their stories, and learn how you can join our mission.

Hi everyone!

With construction finally starting next weekend, we decided to get a head start on our new bunny barn!

We are nowhere near done yet. We’ll be adding a “second level” with a ramp, along with a bunch of other things to make this a fun and comfortable space for our boys. (I’ll put a cute inspiration picture in the comments!)
But right now, our boys desperately need new toys and enrichment!
If you’d like to be an angel sponsor for one of our boys and help spoil them with some toys, treats, beds, or little houses, I know Bumper, Snowball, Spike & Bruno would be SO grateful.

You can find all sorts of things for our boys on our Amazon & Chewy wish lists! 💙

Maddox is HOME! 💙

We got in very late last night and tucked Maddox into bed in his stall for the night. He made the ride home so well and, most importantly, had no additional bleeding!
He still needs antibiotics twice a day for the next week and regular temperature checks, but he is SO happy to be home and back with all of his friends. Everyone was very happy to have him back, and Maddox was especially happy to be OFF stall rest!

Our vet’s office did the absolute best they could to help us with the cost of his emergency care, and we are so incredibly grateful. As a relatively small rescue, we were honestly worried we were going to be hit with a $1,000+ bill.
Instead, Maddox’s entire emergency care came to just $225.24.
We’ve received $95 toward his care so far, which means just $130 more in donations will bring Maddox’s care completely up to date and paid in full!
If you’d like to help us finish covering Maddox’s care, all donation links can be found in the comments below.

And finally, THANK YOU. To everyone who followed along, prayed for him during those very scary moments, kept him in your thoughts, and donated toward his care — we are so unbelievably grateful.
We are incredibly thankful for this community and for everyone who has been rooting for our boy. 💙

Welcome home, Maddox.

Maddox Update #4 💙

Here are the weekend updates from our veterinary team:

Saturday’s update:
“Very happy boy this morning. He drank a bunch of water overnight which is great. This evening would be 48 hours with his packing in. I likely will wait until tomorrow morning to pull it so we don’t have any overnight issues. Then if he is good all day Sunday he can go home Monday!” — Dr. O

Sunday’s update:
“He had a great night. We just removed his packing and so far all looks good. He is on SMZs and will go home on those, but so far no signs of infection. He is keeping his temp normal and doesn’t have any abnormal discharge.” — Dr. O

Maddox gets to come home TOMORROW!!! 💙
We CANNOT wait to have our boy back home!
Not only are we missing him, but Bandit is definitely missing his bestie. He has been so out of sorts. He’s been breaking out of the horse pasture, which is very unlike him, and he has been keeping Willow & Paisley EXTRA close — almost like he’s worried they’re going to disappear too. 🥺
We cannot wait to have Maddox home and get everyone back to normal. 💙

The vet’s office is still accepting payments toward Maddox’s care. If you would like to donate directly, you can do so Monday–Friday from 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Just let them know it’s for Maddox.

(717) 360-6035
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our boy through all of this. We truly cannot thank you enough.
Stay tuned to see our boy come back home tomorrow! 💙

I will be placing a T-shirt order tonight! I know I’ve had a few people ask about them, so I wanted to give everyone a chance to get one.

They are $20 each! You can get them in black or white & they have our large Hope & Hooves logo on the back and our small logo on the front left.
If you would like one, please comment or message me and I’ll let you know how to pay.
All proceeds from this order will go directly toward Maddox’s care.

T-shirts featuring our animals are coming SUPER SOON! 🥰🤍

CALLING ALL LOCAL SUPPORTERS!

We need MAJOR volunteer help!

Our new small animal enclosure project was put on hold after a donor we thought was going to cover the entire project unexpectedly fell through.
But we’re moving forward! All of the lumber, concrete and fencing will be delivered the first week of September, and now we need our community to help us get this project finished.

VOLUNTEER DAYS:
September 5 & 6
September 12 & 13

The first weekend will involve:
• Re-digging post holes (they’ve already been drilled, they just need to be dug back out)
• Mixing concrete
• Setting posts
•(possibly fencing on Sunday depending on how Saturday goes)

The second weekend will be more involved:
• Building the pens
• Putting up fencing
• Building the animal shelters/housing
• Possible painting

Previous construction experience is preferred, but not required. Volunteers must be 18+ (unless we have legal guardian’s signature)
If you’ve ever wanted to help a local rescue, now is definitely the time. We need as many hands as possible to get this project completed in a timely manner and get our animals into their new enclosures.
If you can help, please send us a message, email us, or text 717-919-7768 with the dates you’d like to volunteer.
All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt & water, lunch and snacks will also be provided❤️

We are also still looking for sponsors for the animal pens!
$250 — Sponsor an animal pen
$150 — Sponsor an animal shelter
Every sponsorship comes with a lifelong plaque featuring your name, so everyone who visits can see who stepped up and helped leave their mark on Hope & Hooves.
If you’re interested in sponsoring a pen or shelter, you can read more about the sponsorships and donate below.

PLEASE SHARE this post! We need our local community behind us to get this project finished!
We are in Duncannon PA

Thank you everyone!! 🫶🏻

Maddox Update #3 💙

We got this update from our veterinary team this afternoon:
“Just rechecked his bloodwork and it shows he is not still continuing to bleed. YAY! However, his white cell count is creeping up. This could be just secondary to having surgery and then a major complication, but with all that hematoma present, and with him having packing in place, we will likely add in another antibiotic. I won’t pull his packing until it has been in place for at least 48 hours, which would be tomorrow evening. So I may actually wait until Sunday morning to pull it just to be safe.”

So Maddox will be staying at the emergency vet until at least Sunday. I would much rather play it safe than sorry, and God forbid anything goes wrong over the weekend, he is already exactly where he needs to be.
I cannot thank our veterinary team enough. They have done such an amazing job with Maddox, and we are so incredibly grateful that he is well on his road to recovery.

I recently had someone ask if they could make a direct donation to the veterinary office instead of sending one to the rescue. I spoke with Dr. Oliver about this, and she said that is absolutely fine!
If you would like to make a direct donation toward Maddox’s care, you can call the veterinary office at (717) 360-6035 Monday–Friday from 8:30am–5:00pm. Just let them know you are calling to make a donation for Maddox.

Thank you all so much for every comment, message, phone call, prayer, and good thought you have sent our way. I honestly cannot keep up with them all, but please know how incredibly grateful we are for every single one.
We miss our boy so much and cannot wait to have him home. 💙
