For the first time since arriving at the sanctuary, Paisley felt safe enough to roll. 🩷

It may seem like a small thing, but for a horse who’s been through so much, this is huge. A horse only rolls when they feel comfortable, relaxed, and secure.

Today, Paisley showed us that she’s finally starting to feel safe. 🌸✨

Hi everyone!

We’ve received so many messages asking if Paisley needs anything and if she has a wish list. First, thank you all for the incredible support you’ve shown her. 🥹

We’ve updated our Chewy Wish List with items specifically for Paisley! The feed options on the list were recommended by her veterinarian, and since we currently only have first-cutting hay for our equines, the vet also recommended adding alfalfa to help support her weight gain and recovery.

Anything marked “High Priority” was selected specifically with Paisley’s needs in mind. Of course, you’re welcome to purchase anything from either list, as every item helps care for the animals here at Hope & Hooves Rescue & Sanctuary. 🤍

🌸 Paisley’s most-needed items right now:
• Purina Senior Feed (she’ll be on this for bit. Easier on her tummy💜) We currently only have 1 bag.
• Purina Pony Feed (she will be switched to this after gaining a good amount of weight)
• Alfalfa Hay
• SWAT Fly Repellent - DONATED! Thank you! 🩷
• Hay Bag

We also added a few fun things because sweet Paisley tried to play with the toys at Tractor Supply yesterday, and our hearts absolutely melted. 🥹💜

Other items include:
✨ Fly boots - DONATED! Thank you!
✨ Mane & tail spray refill
✨ Enrichment toys
✨ Cleanup buckets
✨ Bowls
✨ Treats

I’ll also be posting a link to our Amazon Wish List for anyone who prefers to shop there!

If you’d rather not purchase items from either wish list and would like to make a monetary donation instead, you can find all of our donation links in the comments. Every donation—big or small—helps provide feed, veterinary care, supplements, farrier care, and everything Paisley needs on her journey to recovery. 🌸💜

Thank you for being part of Paisley’s story and for helping us give her the fresh start she deserves. Every share, donation, and kind word means more than you know. 🤍

🌸 Paisley Vet Update 🌸

Paisley had her vet appointment this morning, and we left with a solid treatment plan and a lot of hope 🩷

Paisley currently weighs just 70 pounds and will need to gain at least 40 pounds to reach a healthier weight for her size. The vet confirmed she is dealing with a heavy worm burden, an upper respiratory infection, and mild anemia. Her front teeth are also worn down from chewing on objects, likely from trying to survive and find anything she could eat 🥺 Thankfully, these are still her baby teeth and will eventually be replaced.

The good news is that her white blood cell count was better than expected given her condition, and we have already started treatment. She is now on antibiotics for the next week, and together with our veterinarian we’ve created a careful feeding plan to help her gain weight safely.

We also wanted to address a few questions we’ve seen in the comments:
When Paisley appeared to be “shivering” after her bath, she wasn’t cold—she was scared and overwhelmed. It was nearly 95° that day, and she settled quickly afterward and went right back to grazing. She does have blankets available when needed, but in this heat, a blanket during the day would do more harm than good.

We’ve also seen concerns about sunburn. Until her UV sheets arrive, we’re using sunscreen and making sure she always has access to shade 💜

Another common question has been why we didn’t remove her mane and tail. Her lice treatment has worked very well and she is now almost completely lice-free. The vet agreed that removing her mane and tail is not necessary, and she may only need one more wash to fully clear it up.

Right now, our main priorities are treating her respiratory infection, helping her gain weight safely, and continuing to give her the love and care she deserves.

Thank you all so much to our new followers for joining Paisley’s journey and for caring so deeply about her. Every share, comment, donation, and word of encouragement truly means more than you know!🩷

Paisley had her vet appointment this morning and everything checked out as well as could be expected given her current condition! 🙌🏻
Thank you all for keeping this sweet girl in your thoughts and prayers. We know so many of you have been worried about her, and we’re happy to share a positive update today!

We’ll have a full video update for everyone later today, so stay tuned! 🩷🌸

Hi everyone!! ❤️

We know that our videos of Miss Paisley have gone just a little 😅 viral over the past 24 hours! Because of that, we’ve gained A LOT of new followers—and oh my gosh, we are so incredibly thankful for every single one of you!

We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to re-introduce ourselves.

My name is Victoria, and alongside my husband Robert, we run Hope & Hooves Rescue & Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue located right here in Duncannon, Pennsylvania.

We have two tiny kiddos at home (with baby number three due any day now! 🥰), and about a year ago we officially started the rescue that had been a dream in our hearts for a long time.

Today, Hope & Hooves is home to horses, donkeys, ponies, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, and more. Many of our residents came from the auction pipeline, while others arrived through owner surrenders, neglect cases, or situations where they simply needed a second chance. Some animals who come through our gates stay with us permanently as sanctuary residents, while others are adopted into carefully selected homes when it’s in their best interest. Every animal here has a story, and our goal is to ensure each one has a safe and secure future.

My husband and I both care for the rescue full-time. Robert recently returned to school to pursue Agricultural Business Management, all while helping care for the animals each and every day.

One thing many people don’t realize is that we are 100% donation funded. We do not take a salary from the rescue, and every penny donated goes directly back to the animals who call Hope & Hooves home. Feed, hay, veterinary care, hoof trims, fencing, shelter improvements, and daily care are all made possible through the generosity of our supporters. And when donations fall short, we personally step in to make sure our animals continue receiving everything they need.

Our mission is simple: to rescue animals in need, provide rehabilitation and compassionate care, and help each animal find the future that’s right for them—whether that’s a forever home through adoption or permanent sanctuary with us.

To all of our new followers who found us through Paisley—welcome! We are so happy you’re here. We hope you’ll stick around to meet the rest of our incredible residents and follow along on their journeys.

We are so incredibly grateful for all of our new friends and supporters. Thank you for being here, for supporting rescue, and for helping us give these animals the future they deserve. ❤️

With gratitude,

Victoria & Robert
Hope & Hooves Rescue & Sanctuary

We’d love to know where you’re following from! Drop your state (or country!) in the comments and say hello! 👋❤️

Paisley update #4🩷🌸

We had a long and somewhat scary night with Paisley last night. Around bedtime, I noticed she wasn’t quite acting like herself and wasn’t interested in her grain, which seemed a little unusual. She also appeared to be a bit uncomfortable, so we immediately got in touch with our emergency vet.

Based on what we were seeing, the emergency vet did not feel she was experiencing an active emergency but advised us to monitor her closely overnight and contact our regular veterinarian in the morning. Throughout the night, she continued eating hay, drinking some water, peeing, and pooping. Rob and I stayed up with her all night to keep a close eye on her and make sure she was comfortable.

Thankfully, by sunrise this morning, Paisley was much brighter, more alert, and once she was turned out into the pasture, she went right back to grazing like a pro. We contacted our local veterinarian as soon as they opened, and they also do not believe there is any immediate cause for concern. They scheduled her for an appointment on Wednesday so they can give her a thorough once-over and make sure everything is looking as it should.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on our sweet girl. We know so many of you care about Paisley, and we wanted to keep everyone updated.

We were quoted a minimum of $250 for Wednesday’s veterinary visit, and that’s assuming she only needs the initial exam and evaluation. If the veterinarian recommends any additional diagnostics or treatment, the cost could increase from there.

As many of you know, appointments like this are only possible through the generosity of our supporters. If you would like to be Paisley’s angel sponsor and help cover her veterinary expenses, I will make sure our donation links are available in the comments. Every donation, no matter the size, helps ensure that Paisley receives the care she needs and is deeply appreciated by all of us. ❤️

We are all set up at the Marysville-Rye Library until 2 PM today! ❤️

Come out and visit us for some animal cuddles, pets, and smiles! We’ll have some of our adorable rescue animals with us and would love to see you.

This will be our last event for a couple of months as we take some time to adjust to becoming a family of five. 🩷 We’re so grateful for all of your support and look forward to spending the afternoon with everyone before our little break.

Stop by and say hello—we can’t wait to see you! 🐴🐰🐐❤️

❤️ $5 Friday & June Needs Reminder ❤️

Hi everyone! We are re-sharing our June Needs post.

We know many of you just stepped up in a huge way to help bring Paisley home, and we are so grateful for every single one of you. We also know everyone is eagerly watching for updates on our sweet girl (and honestly, how could you not? 🩷).

While emergency rescues and auction saves often get the spotlight, the reality is that the everyday needs are what keep this sanctuary running. Feed, hay, bedding, and basic care may not be the flashy part of rescue, but they are the foundation that allows us to continue saying “yes” to animals in need.

Since it’s $5 Friday, we’re asking everyone to consider donating just $5. It may not seem like much, but when a community comes together, those $5 donations add up quickly and make a huge difference for the animals in our care.

If you would like to be an angel sponsor for one of our six June needs, please let us know! You can also find all of our donation links pinned in the comments below. ❤️

If a one-time donation isn’t the right fit for you, we also have numerous animals available through our Monthly Animal Sponsorship Program for just $25 per month. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to directly support one of our rescued animals while helping provide the ongoing care they need. You can find all of the animals currently available for sponsorship on our website. 🐴❤️

As always, please remember that we are a 100% donation-funded sanctuary. Every bale of hay, every bag of feed, and every animal we care for is possible because of your support.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this post is completely free and helps us reach more people who may be able to help. Every share, comment, and donation makes a difference.

Thank you for helping us keep bellies full and hearts happy this June. ❤️🐴🐐🐰
