I’m very excited to announce that I am now certified in Craniosacral Therapy! I’ve spent the winter working toward this and am now taking on clients!

Craniosacral therapy uses light touch and manipulation of tissue to promote the release of tension through a horses cranium, cervical and thoracic spine, pelvis, and sacrum. It focuses on the craniosacral system which is made of membrane and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The flow of the cerebrospinal fluid can become restricted and dysfunctional through multiple types of tension. The gentle techniques of CST can help release these restrictions and can provide potential benefits to the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of equine health.

It’s always an awesome feeling to get the first large release on a new horse 😆

A busy busy craniosacral day yesterday! Four horses all new to Cransiosacral therapy. I love seeing how differently each horse responds to CST and massage. Some are more stoic, the signs of release smaller and harder to see. Some are dramatic and easy, showing off for everyone stopping by to watch (like Casper 👻). No matter how they express their feelings the relaxation and benefits are clear

It’s not everyday I work on one that makes me look short! Bravo was very brave for his first session but his preferred head placement was definitely on top of mine!

May has been busy and it’s leading to an even busier summer!

During sessions I often step back to let the horse process what we’ve been working on, Poco likes to take those moments to be a sweetheart 💚

One of the benefits of Craniosacral therapy is the potential to improve facial symmetry! There are many cranial bones that are influenced by forces acting on them (halters, bridles, bits, tension throughout the body, horses playing, horses banging their heads of things since they’re such graceful creatures 🙄🤣). These bones can shift and the joints between them can have forms of conflict.

The gentle light touch method of craniosacral therapy can help reduce tension in the face and ideally allow the cranial bones to return to symmetrical unconflicted positions. This is something that’s hard to capture in picture, but the difference is often palpable!

Today I had the privilege of heading over to see Cadie at Brassy Bit Tack + CL Custom Saddles and spent the day soaking up some saddle knowledge!

Cadie showed me a bunch of “saddle guts” and let me help take apart a couple! I could spend all day asking her questions about saddle making, very glad to have such a cool human as a friend. It’s so cool to see this side of things. So much of the work I do is impacted by saddle fit, and adding to my knowledge on fitting has been incredibly valuable.

All of that wool in the first two pictures came out of one saddle! It was rock hard and compacted in some spots due to how old the wool was. The third picture is the air sacs that made up my English saddle, which is now wool flocked. I also picked up my boots and some western tack. Not pictured were the countless saddles she showed me in varying degrees of building/rebuilding stages as well as some broken ones that were discovered during the inspection phase. (To get on a soapbox for a second, check your tack, riding with broken tack can have countless poor outcomes)

This industry has instilled two very strong principles in me, the education is never ending and your community is everything. I’m so incredibly grateful for the community that I’m in.
