Update: Don ended up in the ER Wednesday night for severely low blood pressure and was admitted to Mercy Hospital for observation. He was then transferred back to Hawkeye Care Facility the next day. Don's health is quickly declining as his body is having a hard time sustaining life. However, his heart and mind aren't quite ready yet, as he keeps fighting for just one more day. We are unsure if Medicare covers comfort care in the hospital, but we do know that Medicare does not cover the nursing home stay. Hospice care will be covered by insurance. However, the room and board at the care facility is not covered and is an upfront, out of pocket expense. When the time comes and Don's journey is over, Vicky will have difficulty covering all the expenses occurred over the last few months. We would love to help take some of this stress off of her, as her focus should be on spending time with her husband. Please help if you can, share and please send prayers for our family.

Vicky and her husband Don have given everything they have over the past 15 years, to support her love of animals and to keep this rescue going. Their time of need has come, if you can spare a donation and a prayer, it would help with the medical costs that are quickly accumulating. They never had a savings as it always went to saving critters lives. Please also pray for Vicky and give her some grace as she and her family navigate what happens next. ❤️

My name is Lucky, and I’m officially looking for my forever family! My foster humans have completely spoiled me, which means they are being EXTRA picky about who gets to adopt me. Only the absolute best will do!!!
I am a certified play professional. Toys are my life, and I take my bone-chewing duties very seriously. I like to think of myself as an excellent listener, even if the word "come" sounds like a foreign language to me. My foster family yells it and I just tilt my head... but the second a treat appears? Suddenly, I’m a genius who knows exactly what to do! 😂 I also absolutely adore other dogs and will never turn down a good game of chase.
Life wasn’t always this good. When I was first saved, I was dangerously thin—a heartbreaking 1 out of 9 on the doggy scale. I used to inhale my food because I was so scared it would be my last meal, or that I’d be locked away in a kennel and forgotten. But my fosters showed me what real love looks like. Now, I eat at a normal pace because I know breakfast and dinner are always guaranteed. I’m already up to a sleek, healthy 4, and my ribs are officially a thing of the past!
I am happy, healthy, and overflowing with love to give. If you want to know all my quirks, just ask my foster mom. She always says her favorite breed will always be a RESCUE ❤️—and I'm ready to show you why.
