We hate writing these posts but we need help. We have been turning away strays for the past several days as we are literally BURSTING AT THE SEAMS! Our vet bill is beyond what we have ever had in the past and we are drowning.
Our fosters apply and then we never hear back, and few have applied. We have taken in several stray cats and dogs from the city of Dubuque and Dubuque County and NO ONE covers our expenses.
Until we get down in numbers and fosters start stepping up, our INTAKE is closed!
Everyone calls and messages that they need help with strays, but no one wants to even donate a little to help cover the cost. We do have those WONDERFUL few who are always happy to donate and do their part as a community, because these are NOT our animals either we hear from those that believe it is our JOB to take them in. It is NOT our job, we are not contracted with the city or county, we do not get compensated for any that we bring in.
A couple weeks ago we were asked by one of our out of state partners to help with their over flow, we posted but no one stepped up so we could not and did not accept them in but three tiny kittens and two pups that people offered to help with but now they sit, in a cage waiting for someone to foster or adopt.

adult cat fosters that have medical issues and we were recently in Dubuque's 365ink (and we thank them for the wonderful write up and support but with that we have received several calls and messages telling us how wonderful it is to have us here but their actual calls were to praise us and then beg us to take in animals, when asked why they don't take them to their local shelter we were told because they wouldn't accept them or they wanted compensation or they had to make an appointment. Well, we are sorry to hear that as we typically just accept them but not now, not when there is no support in sight. The only way for us to continue to help them is by the community continuing to help us. $'s, foster, volunteer, adopt, donate etc. and even with all this the biggest need are fosters or foster to adopt, without these everything still stays in standstill.
