Saturday, May 9, 2026 is World Migratory Bird Day! Celebrate all of the birds across the globe!
You can help support their travels by...

🪱💧providing food and water
🏠 creating safe habitats
🐱 keeping cats indoors
🪟 reduce window collisions by putting stickers or other markings on windows
💡turn off unnecessary lights at night
⚠️🚫avoid using pesticides

All of these things will help welcome home our feathered friends for the summer to enjoy their sights and sounds!

Lots of hit by car songbirds lately. These friends are involved in lots of "hormonal flying," and not paying attention to traffic making it easy to get bumped.

What to look for?

🐦Birds sitting out of place
🐦Birds not moving when you approach
🐦"Puffed up" Birds
🐦Birds not flying

If you can walk up to an ADULT bird and just pick the individual up or they can only flutter, but not actually fly away, they need help.

Also, if an adult cardinal isn't latching onto your finger with their beak, and not letting go, he's likely very sick or injured!

Big thanks to Cheyenne who took the time to turn around when she saw this fella stunned in the road.

She got him into a secure box, closed with airholes
Dark is best! And then contacted us right away here (the best way to reach us).

Tragically he died before being admitted but knowing what to do in these urgent situations matters.

We hope you enjoyed GivingTuesday and reading so many wonderful stories from Nonprofits this year. We are currently not an active rehab, but able to be here to help provide education, information, and guidance.

There are many rescue and rehab centers to support so please keep them in mind during this holiday season! They run solely off donations and any dollar amount helps.

Happy Holidays! 🕊️

In 2021 I noticed an increase in sick intakes in fledglings. HPAI was not as severe in the states as it is now and there were symptons that illustrated pesticide poisoning. Then I noticed the cicadas were emerging and it was a diet being fed to young birds!
I resigned from my center that year so I don’t know how the turn out was, but I always found it odd. Turns out so did others…..
Dr. Sarah Reich and the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center noticed an increase in admissions of fledgling birds as well showing symptoms that could have indicated the emergence of a new infectious disease like I thought also! But they found a mono-diet of cicadas causing severe vitamin A deficiency.

I will be attending an online seminar this week hosted by the IWRC featuring Dr. Reich, and the story of what happened, what the center did, and the outcome. It should be very interesting!
