Glue-on shoes can last a full cycle (typically 4–6 weeks) when applied to clean, dry hooves. I do my very best to clean and dry hooves at the time of application, but there are things you can do to help ensure successful retention.

Horses that have been standing in mud, water, snow, or wet conditions need a chance to dry before I arrive. A dry place to stand is essential—ideally a stall. If you don’t have a stall, here are some options:
• Brush the hooves free of mud
• Hose them off, then let them air dry or towel-dry
• Hose off + place diapers over the feet about an hour before I arrive
• Place a flattened cardboard box or rubber mat under the feet

The horse must also have a dry place to stand during the application. If there’s no way to get the horse out of wet weather, we’ll need to reschedule.

Following these steps gives your horse the best chance for successful shoe retention!
