Hey, Stalkers! ๐Ÿ‘€

I know, I know... I still haven't completely caught y'all up on my last trip, and I've definitely been slacking on posting lately. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Between the move, work, and welcoming a brand-new grandbaby right as I left for this route... life has been doing what life doesโ€”keeping me busy and slightly behind on just about everything. ๐Ÿ’œโœจ

But I had to pop in and introduce a few of this trip's more unusual visitors...

I mean, passengers. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿพ

Meet, who I named, Jack & Jill ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ โ€” two Brahma chicks that by judging by the amount of food they polished off, were completely unbothered by their whole road-trip situation. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒพ

Seriously. Zero f's given. They were back there pecking away, living their best little chicken lives. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ’œ

And then we had, who I called Hansel & Gretel. ๐Ÿฆš๐Ÿฆšโœจ

Because apparently every respectable animal chauffeur needs the occasional peacock aboard ๐Ÿ˜‚

But wait... there are more. ๐Ÿ‘€

Also tucked safely aboard were a dozen Brahma hatching eggs headed to their new home. ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ’œ

While y'all have seen me transport a few feathered babies here and there for local homesteaders and small farms, these four officially mark a little WickedMoon first. ๐ŸŒ™โœจ

๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฆš Jack & Jill and Hansel & Gretel are WickedMoon Animal Chauffeur's first long-distance feathered farm passengers. ๐Ÿฆš๐Ÿฅ

And I have to say, they took life on the road like seasoned professionals. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’œ

So technically, I was traveling with somewhere between four and sixteen special passengers yesterday ๐Ÿคญ

And honestly, that's one of the things I love about what I do. WickedMoon isn't limited to your typical four-legged travelers.

๐Ÿพโœจ Fins, feathers, paws, claws or scalesโ€”it doesn't much matter to me. โœจ๐Ÿพ

If it needs to get from here to there safely and comfortably, chances are I can get it there. ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’œ

And while I'd like to say I draw the line at spiders, I know better than to say never. One day, I may very well be called upon to chauffeur somebody's beloved eight-legged freak. ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ณ

But let me be perfectly clear...

That little b*stard better be under LOCK. AND. KEY. if it plans on riding inside the Black Pearl. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Just another perfectly normal day aboard the Black Pearl...

โœจ Road Check-In โ€“ Part 3 โœจ

Hey Stalkers... ๐Ÿ‘€

When we left off, Black Pearl, Maple, and I had just made our stop at the old Geronimo Trading Post.

Our next stop was the Painted Desert Indian Center, and I'm so glad we decided to pull in. ๐Ÿœ

I spent quite a while talking with the Navajo ladies working there. They shared stories about many of the displays, the local artists who created them, and the history behind some of the beautiful pieces throughout the store.

I ended up bringing home a beautiful handcrafted sand art created by an 80-year-old Navajo artist using sand gathered from the surrounding desert. Knowing the story behind it somehow made it even more special. ๐Ÿค—

One thing that really stuck with me was learning that some of these traditional arts are becoming harder to continue. Hearing firsthand about the challenges of preserving these crafts gave me an even greater appreciation for the talent, history, and culture behind every handmade piece. ๐Ÿ’œ

Before saying goodbye, I also picked up some Joshua tree seedsโ€”a dream of mine since I was a little girlโ€”and a bag of petrified wood to bring home and share with some of the people closest to me.

Maple and I then continued west through Arizona and New Mexico, where Mother Nature decided the scenery wasn't quite dramatic enough...
She added monsoon season. ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

Towering storm clouds stretched across the desert, shelf clouds rolled in, and I got to experience my very first desert dust storm. Watching the wind pick up the earth itself and paint the horizon in shades of subtle gold and brown was something I'll never forget.

The pictures you'll see show just a glimpse of what we experiencedโ€”the towering shelf clouds, the walls of dust, and the incredible contrast in colors as the storm rolled across the desert. It was raw, wild, beautiful... and absolutely unforgettable.

Every mile brought another incredible view, another reason to pull over, and another reminder that this country never runs out of ways to leave me speechless.๐Ÿ’•

I hope these pictures capture even a fraction of what it felt like to stand there. ๐ŸŒตโ›ˆ๏ธ

โœจ Road Check-In โœจ
Hey Stalkers... ๐Ÿ‘€

Yeah, yeah... I know. It's been a minute since my last update. About 8,500 miles in nine days will do that. ๐Ÿ˜…

Now that Black Pearl, Maple, and I have finally made it back home to Virginia, let me get everybody caught up.

At our last check-in, Black Pearl, Maple, little Nala the Shar-Pei puppy, and I had just left Tennessee and were headed west. Since then, we made it all the way to Stockton, California, safely delivered Nala to her new family, and then Maple and I turned around and started making our way back east, with our first stop in Texas.

Be patient with me on this one... this adventure is too big for just one post. It's going to take a couple of parts to tell this story the way it deserves to be told. ๐Ÿ“–

On the way west Arizona, and then on the way back east New Mexico, decided to welcome me the best way they knew how... monsoon season. ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

The ceraunophile in me (yes... that's a fancy word for someone who absolutely loves storms ๐Ÿคฃ) was in absolute heaven most of this trip๐Ÿค—. I watched towering storm clouds build over the desert, drove through my very first desert dust storm, and was reminded once again that Mother Nature always wins.

The desert itself was just as breathtaking. The colors of the landscape shifted from warm reds and rusts to creamy whites, grays, and nearly black canyons. Every mile felt like I had crossed into a different world.

And then... there was Geronimo.

Google told me the old trading post was closed, but I made the drive-by anyway, hoping it might be open. It had been sitting on my bucket list for quite a while.

Long before I ever dreamed of standing there, my Daddy was the one who introduced me to the story of Geronimo. I can still remember sitting beside him, watching documentaries and old Western shows about Geronimo and the Apache people.
So even though the doors were closed, I couldn't just drive past without stopping.

Standing there among the history, I heard an eagle calling overhead. I never found the bird, but as I turned to leave, a painted eagle seemed to be staring right back at me.

Coincidence? Maybe.

A little hello from Dad?

I'll let you decide. โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆ…

To be continued...

Next stop... the Painted Desert Indian Center, where I found a special treasure I'd been dreaming about for quite a while, and learned that sometimes the best souvenirs aren't the ones you buy... they're the stories you bring home to tell others. ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒต

โœจ๐ŸŒ™ Road Update ๐ŸŒ™โœจ

Hey Stalkers. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’œ

Well we've made our way from Virginia, through Tennessee, down to the Mississippi border, then across Arkansas followed by Oklahoma, the top hat of Texas, New Mexico, and currently just entered Arizona with California on the horizon. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿš

Yesterday was a game of dodging rainstorms. Hopefully we stay just ahead of them... ๐ŸŒง๏ธโ›ˆ๏ธ
This evening's forecast may be a little touch and go also ๐Ÿซฃ

Don't worry though... I've got my Jesus sandals on. ๐Ÿ˜‚ After seeing a tornado in my sideview mirror chasing me down a couple years back, I'm convinced those Birkenstocks earned their wings. Dorothy had her ruby slippers... I've got my Jesus sandals. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

This trip has been a little different.

It's just me, my sidekick Maple ๐Ÿพ, and one tiny Shar-Pei puppy, Nala ๐Ÿถ, making our way across the country.

We've already delivered one tiny long-haired Dachshund puppy, along with a beautiful Maine C**n cat ๐Ÿˆ, to the sweetest little old lady who just happened to share the same name as my oldest sister... Beth. ๐Ÿ’œ I couldn't help but smile at that little synchronicity.

We spent part of yesterday traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway. It stole my cell signal for hours, but honestly... it gave me something much better in return. ๐ŸŒฟ

Now... let's talk about Google. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Apparently Google woke up and chose violence.
It decided the best route was down roads that looked like they came straight out of a horror movie. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ˜ณ

No cell service. Trees so thick they blocked out the sun. Miles of gravel roads. Potholes everywhere. Not another soul in sight. Expecting banjos at every turn. Google Maps would freeze because I had absolutely no signal, so I was basically driving on faith and hoping I was making the right turns. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Thank goodness I learned how to read a paper map before GPS took over. I found myself watching my odometer and matching the mileage to the map, trusting the next turn would show up where it was supposed to.๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Needless to say... Maple was judging every life decision I'd made that led us to those roads. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿพ I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Maple and I finally stopped for a break at Cypress Creek, a quiet little creek that flows from the Tennessee River. ๐ŸŒŠ
We stretched our legs, listened to the water, and I found a beautiful piece of conglomerate stone.

That stone deserves a post all its own. ๐Ÿ˜‰โœจ

Standing there, knowing we were walking along portions of the same trail that Native Americans once used for trade, travel, and connection generations ago, was one of those moments that makes you feel incredibly small... and somehow deeply connected all at once.

And just when I thought the day couldn't surprise me anymore, Oklahoma put on one of the most breathtaking sunsets I've seen in a long time. ๐ŸŒ… Even more surreal, I could see a haze of smoke hanging in the distance from the wildfires burning hundreds of miles away out west. It's hard to wrap your mind around the sheer scale of it.

The open road has a funny way of clearing your mind. ๐ŸŒ™

I've spent months wrapped up in hurt... anger I couldn't seem to let go of... sadness... drowning in a river of memories... and the uncertainty that came with everything changing. Leaving my home. Letting go of the life I thought I was supposed to have.

I kept feeling like I was stuck in quicksand. I knew I needed to move forward. Half of me was clawing toward the future while the other half couldn't get its feet unstuck from the past.

But somewhere between the miles... the sunsets... the winding roads... and that little creek...
I felt something had shifted.
I realized...

I'm not leaving the homestead.
I am the homestead. ๐Ÿ–ค

Home is the life I've built... the lessons I've learned... the people I've loved... the animals who've changed me... the memories I carry... and the roots that now live inside me.

Somehow, without me even realizing it, my whole world has been quietly shifting and reshaping itself around all the tiny empty spaces I thought would never be filled again.

I'm not losing those pieces.
They're becoming the foundation I'll carry with me as I build whatever comes next.

Maybe that's what healing really looks like.

Not holding tighter to what was...

But realizing the parts that truly matter have been traveling with me all along. ๐Ÿ’œ

The road is still calling... and for the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm finally answering it. ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿš
