Join us in 2025 for a four-part lecture series on Equine Behavior with owner and head trainer at Misty Step Stables, Anna Boger DVM. Throughout the lecture series, we’ll be covering some of the applications of behavior science to equine veterinary medicine and horse training!

For part one, our focus will be Cooperative Care: Using Behavior Science for Easier Vet Appointments

Come out and learn how to turn your horse into your veterinarian’s favorite patient! We’ll show you how you can use the science of equine learning and behavior to create relaxed and willing horses that stand quietly for husbandry and medical care such as oral medications, clipping, and urgent wound care.
We can keep our veterinarians safe by teaching our horses the skills they need to succeed — from routine vaccinations to emergency trailer loading.

We had a fabulous opportunity to host Shawna Karrasch Equine for an equine behavior / positive reinforcement workshop with fellow industry professionals this weekend.

Among others we had veterinarians, trainers, equine-assisted psychotherapists, farriers, and more who have dedicated their continued education to equine behavior.

Thank you for spending your Sunday to furthering your already-extensive education in a way that improves your ability to understand and give voice to our horses.

We can only invest in continuing education when that knowledge is available to us and here at Misty Step we strive to facilitate that learning — from first signs of curiosity in our students to fine tuning advanced skills among our colleagues.

Thank you ALL so much for coming. ❤️ See you next time!

Shawna Karrasch Equine reunited with our old friend and patient — the one and only Milo! Previously fostered by Misty Step staff member Samantha Rubio (author of this post) and now in his forever home with Sara Milbrandt.

Milo hit the jackpot with Sara. Thank you so much to his lifetime care team and we’re over the moon that that can still include Shawna Corrin Karrasch. ❤️

Sending so much love to little Milo!

Wow! We were honored to have CJ Caniglia for our workshop with Shawna Karrasch Equine this weekend. 🤩

Separation anxiety is such a challenge, and time consuming to treat!! Caribou and Bev were the only two horses here for a whole year and got very attached (well one more than the other, we don't need to say who, but it's Caribou). With a third horse in the barn for company and the new indoor up, it's time for the pony to start leaving the barn for some training too! Caribou is absolutely not a fan!!! As frustrating as it is to postpone Bev's training in the ring again, taking the time is worth it I think. Plus it's a good opportunity to examine and tweak my separation anxiety protocol! Thanks to modern technology (ie. a tripod and a cell phone that can take video), I can do some basic research at the farm!

If people are interested I can post more on this + some of the videos later, but for now below is my very broad look at the data from day 1 and 2 (yesterday and today), showing a good looking trend if nothing else!
