W BAR HORSE TRAINING
Riding before I could walk I grew up in deep east Texas watching my father and brothers ride, break and train horses. As I grew older I became more involved in the process and began to find my own passion and path in this life of connecting horse to rider. I began training on my own in spring of 99’ to help pay my way through college. I quickly realized

that one day this was to be my life. It was not to come as I planned. In fall of 2001 on a September morning my world along with so many others changed and I joined the Army to fight the Global war on Terror. I sold my horse and my gear and moved my family to TN where I was stationed at Fort Campbell. Even in the Army I always found myself drifting back to the horse and a passion I couldn’t contain. In 2016 I was given the honor to command the 1st Cavalry Division, Horse Cavalry Detachment. There I met two true horsemen that influence my training even today. Larry Borth, retired Civilian Stable Master and Mr. Donnie Davis the current Civilian Stable Master taught me much and reignited the passion to connect rider to horse. Since then I have continued to study and learn as much as I can from the greats such as; Chris Cox, Monty Roberts, Mark Rashid and Clinton Anderson. I am a horsemen of many methods and believe all training can be summed in three basic principals.

1. Everything you do with a horse should start with and be built on trust.

2. The intention is not to get where to are "able" to but get to where you are "allowed" to.

3. No two horse are the same and should never be approached as such. Training these amazing creatures is my passion and there truly is not much to it. Move slow, talk soft and know when to say enough is enough. Nothing fancy and it isn't hard.

After battling some health isues since moving here to Centeral Louisiana it is time to get back in the saddle again. So it is time to pull all the tack out and clean up all the saddles and get ready for work this summer. Maybe I will see you out there in the Vernon and Beaureguard parishes.

23 years ago today
I was on my way to class at Stephen F. Austin and had no clue what had happened because I didn’t have the radio on. I got to my public speaking class to a note on the door to meet at the auditorium. Thinking I had forgotten an assignment and had a speech due I went down stairs with dread. As I entered the auditorium I saw a woman crying and the news was on. About 5 minutes later the second tower was hit. Later that afternoon I had lunch with Kristen and Jr. at Ritas in Nacogdoches and I decided our country needed me. I stood in line for three hours to talk to the Army Recruiter along with over a hundred other of my fellow Texans. I was late to work at Foretravel that night but my friends supported me and knew how I felt. A week later I was on one of three busses full of future Soldiers, Marines, Seaman, and Airmen going to Houston for our MEPs date. I will never forget those we lost that fateful morning or those we have lost since ensuring it never happens again. Please remember all those who have lost love ones and all those who have sacrificed.
RIP........... I will never stop fighting for you all!

It has been a year since I have broke out the Wbar equipment and connected with one the greatest gifts the human race was ever given. I figured I would start close to home with my sister’s mare who needs a little attention. I was hot and it was great; round pen to saddle to ponying up a mustang from one of the other pastures down the road she was great. I will have one video coming as well. (Post 1of2)

Leaving Texas has been quite the adventure and on my personal page I will say good bye to all the folks that made life there so good. This post however is dedicated to all the horses of Wbar horse training that share blood, sweat, broken bones and Texas dust with me over the last two years. I learned so much from all these mounts while training them. Not pictured is my palomino buddy Vinnie and Stryker.

I am a complete tack-aholic and my bag came in so now I can carry everything I need with me when I train away frome home. Plus I get to talk about bits and bridles 😍
Left to right
First hook: (1) mechanical hackamore standard reins; (2) standard one ear headstal and reins with a Tom Thumb snaffle

Middle hook: (1)standard one ear headstal with heavy Texas style split reins and a fine tuning correctional medium port curb/ grazing bit; (2) one ear headstal ring snaffle heavy sweet iron on 22’ mecate reins with slobber straps

Far right hook; (1) standard side pull and reins; (2) hackamore/ bosal leather headstal hand braided roo rawhide nose ring and 20’ hitched horse hair mecate reins.

I should have just about everything I need with these 6 rigs. Besides 60% of the work is between the “reins and stirrups” not the equipment. It doesn’t matter how good your tack is if I don’t ride or train properly it amounts to a pile of manure.

Now what to do with all the other ones 🤣🤣🥺

So COVID19 update I have had the privilege to work with two great mounts Freedom and Knoxville. I haven’t had my normal paparazzi 😉 ( thanks Sis) taking pics and videos but I was able to get some this weekend( thanks Cassie). So here are a few pictures and videos to follow. We worked some with the tarp and finding their feet. They have come a long way in a short time.
