🐾 HAPPY TAILS UPDATE: JAX! 🐾
From the streets of Del Rio to a loving home with wide-open spaces, Jax’s journey is a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do! ✈️ ❤️
Jax’s story started at City of Del Rio Animal Services. We stepped in to pull him from the shelter, get him fully vetted, and place him safely into foster care. Back in April, Jax hitched a ride on a Wings of Rescue flight to our incredible partner, PAWS Animal Adoption Center Maine.
We choose our national partners with the utmost care, and while BAM isn't directly part of the adoption interview on the receiving end, our commitment to our dogs never ends when the plane touches down. We love following our rescue pups all the way through their journey and staying connected with their adopters as they settle into their new lives!
Jax’s adopters recently reached out to us with an update, and their words say it all:
"This is the perfect dog for me. I needed a large friendly dog, medium energy, with short, short hair and a rugged look. I live in such an isolated place with only one near neighbor and farmland and woods in all other directions. Now I feel safe again. I don't think Jax would hurt a flea but his presence in my front yard watching for squirrels and surveying the horizon is perfect. He loves to be outside, even by himself, mostly walking the boundaries and inspecting. Other times he is so goofy playing with Pip, spinning around like a dervish, play bowing and jumping straight up off the ground with all four feet in the air. Inside he lies around, flat as a pancake. He'd be perfect if he didn't dig giant holes and play in mud. We come back from our long walks and he always has to be hosed off and dried, which is ok in the summer but now it is cold and winter is coming. I thought Jax would not like the cold but he could care less. He must think he has the coat of a Great Pyrenees.
He's almost as smart as Einstein. And he appears to be rather sober and dull. But he can learn anything immediately and he can figure stuff out. He figured out how to lift the latch of the gate that separates the hallway from my bedroom so if I don't get up on time he lifts the latch and comes in, gleefully, knowing he has played a trick on me. He's so pleased with himself he wiggles while I watch him from the bed. In the summer when he couldn't get through the door he raised the windows with his nose and head and out he went.
I wish these pictures were better; I wish I could have captured the really funny and astonishing moments in his life with us, but you can get the idea. We are a very happy family. I am forever grateful to you for rescuing this perfectly stellar dog. I adore him. After the loss of our old guard dog, Priam, we were so sad here and Pip cried all the time. Jax came into our lives and it was like a miracle.
Blessing on you and your heartfelt endeavors to save the dogs of Del Rio and helping to change the lives for these abandoned dogs and people like myself. I was so sad and Pip was so lonely. Now every day seems special. He is our treasure."
