Friendly Farms - A Small Animal Sanctuary At Friendly Farms we help homeless and abandoned animals, mostly guinea pigs and rabbits. We are located in Monterey County, California.

Friendly Farms is a foster home and sanctuary dedicated to assisting in the placement and protection of rabbits and guinea pigs at risk. We work with the House Rabbit Society to promote adoptions, spay and neuter programs, and proper care for happy, healthy, life-long relationships with our animal companions.

A little update on Hermione. She’s able to sit up and self-feed hay and some greens now. We are still syringe feeding her 3 times a day so she gets enough calories, but her quality of life has improved. Buddy offers moral support as well. ❤️🐹

Biscuit and Bunny are 9 week old girls from a surprise litter. They are looking for an indoor home together, where they can enjoy unlimited fresh grass hay, safe space to run, and doting humans who will bring them delicious salads everyday and not mind cleaning up after them. 🥗🧹

Lunch with the wobbly girls. Ross syringe fed Margie earlier, and she sleeps on my legs while I syringe feed Hermione and grab a sandwich for myself. And, of course, Hermione gets some of my arugula. 🌱🐹🐱🩷

Tuesday was vet day. 🩺 Rex had his usual 3 week full dental under anesthesia. Dr. Thomas has decided the recurring abscess is coming from his back molars repeatedly growing into his cheek, despite the frequent filings. Unfortunately we can’t just pull them, so we will have to figure out an antibiotic schedule to keep the infection controlled without overusing them. 🦷

Micky had his annual exam and RHDV2 vaccine booster. He’s doing great. 🖤

Bubbles had a difficult bout of gi stasis a couple of weeks ago, and was even hospitalized for a few days. She’s finally feeling better. She also got her RHDV2 booster. 💉

Hermione has head tilt and a case of the wobbles. Last vet visit, Dr. Wells diagnosed a probable ear infection, and prescribed an antibiotic, but Hermione was having a strong reaction to that one, so we switched to a different antibiotic this week. 🐹

Peanut had his neuter surgery. He came through very well and started eating again right away. He was sore yesterday, but feeling better today. We’re looking forward to his being able to live with a family again. 🤎

Please join us in welcoming Peanut! 🥜 Peanut is about a year old, and already the father of 3 adorable babies. This was an unexpected event, so poor Peanut had to move out. 😢

Peanut is a very sweet boy. He will be available for adoption into a home with other guinea pigs after his neuter surgery.

Tuesday was vet day this week. Rex had his regular 3 week full dental under anesthesia. His weight was up again, so we will continue with the regimen we have put together for him. 🥳 He is tolerating the azithromycin well this time, and we are hoping to finally get rid of the jaw infection forever. 🤎🐹

Topper had her regular 6 week tooth trim. Dr. Thomas was once again able to do the work with just the nippers. 🎉 Topper is even eating hay, which we weren’t sure we’d ever see again when we were going through the abscess/extractions battle a few months ago. She’s a real trouper. 🩷🐰

Juliet had her annual exam and RHDV 2 booster shot. She’s doing very well; just going through a heavy shed right now. 🤍🐇

Eleanor also had her annual exam and RHDV 2 vaccine booster. 💉 Her allergies are acting up and Dr. Thomas is concerned there’s a bacterial infection going on too, so she prescribed Excede injections to see if we can clear that up. ❤️🐇

Baby Panda has had blood in her urine. Dr. Thomas didn’t feel any tumors or cysts. X-rays didn’t show any stones or sludge, so we sent a urine sample to the lab. No white blood cells were found. She has been prescribed an anti inflammatory, and we will continue to monitor her. 🧡🐹
