It all started with a little Pipsqueak...
In 2014, founders Erin and Andrew adopted a little potbellied pig from a Craigslist ad--and the rest, you can say, is history! This little pig changed their lives, and inspired them to start Hog Haven Farm. In five years, more than 275 pigs have been rescued, and more than 100 have found their forever families! Hog Haven Farm rescues all breeds of pig, though most are abandoned, abused or neglected potbellies, once purchased as pets. Pigs are intelligent, emotional, and highly personable beings; those who cannot be adopted as pets live out their natural lives at Hog Haven Farm!
Our mission is to provide a safe environment for potbellied pigs that are rescued from situations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. HHF strives to promote compassion for all animals, and to allow these animals to live happy lives without fear and suffering. We currently offer therapy pet programs across the Denver metro area, and our list includes memory care facilities, nursing homes, assisted living communities, libraries, and more! In the long term, Hog Haven Farm aims to: • Promote potbellied pigs as the third recognized domesticated animal and pet by providing education and resources to the general public • Provide a safe home for rescued pigs to call home; a place for rehabilitation; and a welcoming environment for the community to become better acquainted with animals associated with food • Educate the community about potbelly pigs as creatures and pets • Educate the community about farm animals through volunteer programs, organization visits to the farm (schools, etc.), and allow community to work directly with the animals to learn more about them • Educate the community about sustainable food options; farm animals are more than dinner, and educational programs are paramount in creating change within the food industry • Create outreach program for children with autism (research strongly suggests that animals increase positive social behaviors with children that have ASD)
