Focusing here on getting the horse off of the hand - reducing his dependency on "support" such that he carries himself - in collection - without needing to be carried with the hand or 'nagged' with the legs. To get there, I'm moving the action of the snaffle from the bars of the jaw to the corners of the mouth. Here, signal transfers, but resting "weight" does not. This = +fidelity, +lightness, and encourages the horse to lift his neck. From there, biomechanics and physics easily persuade him to come beneath with his legs, which = +collection/lift (vs. +extension/push) energy; and also +balance. Together, these effects enable a cooler transfer of the right power where/when we want it, enabling rapid development of departures, changes, ready renverse, piaffer, etc. ... which = Mobility (our actual object). Quick results with this polite, super smart, super gorgeous Spanish horse ... excerpted from Intro to Baucherism seminar; July 2021, @ The Biltmore Estate / Biltmore Equestrian Center.
