Born, raised, and used out on the rugged terrain of a large cattle operation in WY, “Murphy” is a tried-and-true 2019 ranch gelding standing 14.3H. From work to pleasure -these sturdy and tough built geldings are hard to find these days! With a pedigree including Paddys Irish Whiskey and Playgun he is surely cow-y enough to get any job done. This is a straight forward ranch, rope, and trail gelding that you want to be on! What I appreciate the most about Murphy is that he knows when to get business done, but also knows when he can go on a relaxing trail ride too. He LOVES riding outside – he is confident and happy outside! He packed my novice husband down the trail and took great care of him. Pitch him the reins and he will take you anywhere you want to go. He has opened about a million gates in his career as a ranch horse, and works them like a pro. He can tie ALL day long, and will c**k a back leg and fall asleep. Hauls exceptionally well off property – unload him off the trailer and hit the trails. He is patient, not antsy, never in a rush, and could care less if he lead the pack, was in the middle, or in the back.
Quiet, seasoned outside, and ready for whatever job or adventure you have. Murphy has seen rough Country, navigated all sorts of terrain, ridden in town by trains and cars flying past him, and has ben used like a true ranch horse. He has drug cows to the branding fire, loaded bulls, and sorted mamas/babies. He has 0 attitude and is a point and shoot kind of ride. He will confidently take you through rough waters, over bridges, down steep terrain, and navigate over fallen logs. He is not buddy or barn sour and can be rode out alone without a fuss. We have used him to pony other horses, run down and catch loose horses on the side of the road (literally), etc. His lope is rhythmic and steady - give him the reins and just guide him one handed where you want to go. He is a kind guy, adores affection, but minds his manners and does not clobber all over you. He is fantastic in a stall, no weave/kick/pace/crib, and does great out in a big field too. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, he is lowest on the totem pole in the pasture, and is just easy to get along with every which way.
Murphy sells 100% sound with a pre-sale vet statement and a set of clean x rays on file. Current on vaccines, dental, coggins etc. AQHA papers in hand! He is barefoot, big footed, thick b***d, and well put together. He is stout and can carry 250 pounds well. He carries the Sunlight Ranch Co brands on him, only the best pack those brands. These types of geldings are bred to last a lifetime – hardy, sure footed, and reliable. Take him to the roping pen, continue using him as a ranch horse, or simply enjoy him as a trail mount.
