This Morning's Surprise?
An Unannounced AKC Inspection!

We had an unexpected visit from the AKC this morning, and after a detailed 2-hour inspection of our dogs, records, and setup — we’re proud to share that we passed with flying colors!

These inspections are thorough (and a little nerve-wracking when they show up unannounced), but they’re important — and we’re always ready. We are committed to doing things the right way, and today’s results reflect that.

We’re so thankful to our puppy families for trusting us and proud to meet the high standards that responsible breeding deserves.

Why We Do Not Recommend Retractable Leashes

Using a retractable leash may seem like a convenient option, but it carries significant risks for both handlers and pets. One major concern arises when a dog feels no resistance on the leash, encouraging them to run. If the leash suddenly retracts, the handler can be pulled abruptly and with great force, potentially leading to serious injuries such as sprains, falls, or worse.

This lack of control creates unsafe conditions, especially in crowded or urban environments. To ensure safety and maintain proper control, it’s recommended to use a fixed-length leash. These provide better handling, reduce risks, and promote safer walking experiences for both the pet and handler.

Here Are Some Additional Reasons Why Retractable Leashes Are Not Recommended

•Delayed Reaction Time: The extra length of a retractable leash makes it harder to react quickly if your dog suddenly moves toward danger, such as traffic, another animal, or a hazard.

•Leash Breakage: Retractable leashes often use thin cords that are prone to snapping under pressure, particularly if your dog is strong or pulls suddenly.

•Startling Noises: When the leash lock is engaged, the loud clicking sound can startle some dogs, potentially causing anxiety or unpredictable behavior.

•Encourages Pulling Behavior: The extended freedom can teach dogs to pull, as they learn that pulling gets them more space. This can make them harder to control on fixed-length leashes later.

•Risk of Injuring Others: The thin cord of a retractable leash can trip pedestrians, entangle cyclists, or even cause injuries to other pets and their owners.

Choosing a traditional fixed-length leash not only reduces these risks but also promotes better safety, training, and overall walking experience. Prioritize control and safety for both you and your pet.
