It is important to maintain your pet’s oral health which can have lifelong impacts on their overall health and quality of life. Here are some tips on how to care for your dog or cats teeth:

1. Regular teeth brushing can be done simply with a toothbrush or with specific dog/cat toothpaste. Be sure not to use human toothpaste and always slowly introduce your pet to tooth brushing when first starting.
2. Professional dental cleanings with dental radiographs are the best way to remove plaque, diagnose underlying dental disease, and extract painful and diseased teeth.
3. Always be on the lookout for signs of dental disease such as red/inflamed gums, fractured teeth, bad breath, or bloody discharge. Dogs and cats are especially good at hiding pain and discomfort when it comes to dental disease!
4. Depending on your pet’s preference, there are many options of dental diets and dental chews which are an easy (and yummy) way to help maintain a healthy oral cavity.

Be sure to ask about your pets oral health at your next wellness visit or schedule a dental consult to go over all of the options for dental care 🦷
