Beautiful Karen isn’t one to let others know just how stunning she is because she’s so shy. This lovely girl isn’t very sociable around people or other dogs. While she’s been with us for a while now, she has been hesitant to tip her paw about her full personality.

Things we do know about Miss Karen – she is super food motivated and a notorious counter-surfer. Bakers beware! If you turn your back for a moment, she’s likely to swipe a prize! Karen knows how to use the dog door and will follow a housemate outside. Now sometimes getting her back in can be a challenge because she doesn’t like sudden movements. Karen has warmed up to my husband more than me – even though I bake the cookies she loves!

Karen really lights up when she’s playing with a crinkle toy, those are her absolute favorites; especially those where you put in an empty water bottle. Be prepared for a lot of bottle replacements with this girl around.

It seems inconsistent that this shy girl can be so very vocal! Apartment life is not in her future. Her ideal home is one with a yard, a big fluffy dog bed, maybe a canine companion so she can follow and a quiet place so she can acclimate and learn to be herself. Karen is a diamond in the rough and requires patience to help her adjust.

Who doesn’t love Bacon?! Well, this variety is a big handsome white and fawn greyhound with a sweet kissy spot on the top of his masked head. Having been in a home before he has excellent manners, doesn’t get on furniture, walks nicely on lead, and will tell you EXACTLY what he wants and when! In return - Bacon knows commands like “drop”, “stay”, “come” (most of the time), “down”, “go outside”, “do your business”, “kennel up”, “no”, “uh-uh”, “go to bed”, “go for a walk”.

Routine is very important to this boy – and top among that is timing of meals and treats. Bacon is exceptionally food motivated and tries to be helpy during food prep. While he is a tall fella, he is not one to counter-surf and will wait somewhat patiently nearby.

Toys are quite fun and playing with a ball in the backyard is quite a spectacle! His helicopter tail gets to spinning when he has his favorite squeaky and he’ll add a zoomie if there’s room. Outside loves to chase a ball with reckless abandon and brings it back to be tossed again. Naturally after these bursts of energy he is ready for a powernap!

The adage “let sleeping dogs lie” is extremely important with respect to Bacon. He suffers from sleep startle, so everyone in the house needs to be fully aware of this trait. One must always make sure he raises his lovely head and makes eye contact before approaching his bed. Additionally, other pets or people should not step on his bed as he may growl and react. For this reason, we recommend that Bacon not live with children. At night he would do well to sleep in the room with his people, likely in a crate or x-pen. That way no one can accidentally step on his bed or wake him from a deep slumber.

Bacon loves to be loved on and will come up for hugs and kisses. He’s sweet with his kisses in return. He can get really excited for walks, food and when you come home – and may paw at you for attention. He can be trusted to have free roam when no one’s home, or be in a kennel or x-pen – he’s ok with all the options.

We feel Bacon is best suited as an only dog in a home with people to adore and a yard for playing. While he has lived with other greyhounds and medium sized dogs in close quarters, it’s not an ideal environment. Bacon is a lovely fella who wants nothing more than to have people to adore and give them a lifetime of joy.

Slugger, aka Plugger, is a fawn male born December 4, 2020. Slugger is an Australian hound. He should not live with cats or small animals, but would do best with a large dog friend.

I like big boys and I cannot lie! Nico is a big gentle giant with a stunning shiny tuxedo coat. He recently retired from coyote hunting in Corrales, NM. He’s a gorgeous mix of Irish Wolfhound, Borzoi, and Greyhound and weighs in at 105 lbs. His former owner said he is an “alpha” but here in his GALT foster home, he hasn’t shown any signs of that, living peacefully inside with other hounds ranging from 38 to 78 pounds (both a male and females). Outside, we segregate him from the smaller and senior hounds for safety and segregate him at feeding time. Nico walks well on a harness and collar/leash combo and is very well mannered unless a rabbit hops by (and will pull in these cases). Nico is a sociable hound at our weekly pack walks and he has been a perfect patio dining companion at local restaurants. Everyone he meets falls in love with this handsome hound.
Having lived his first years in an outdoor kennel, we (his foster family) are working on getting him 100% on house training and not counter surfing; his forever family will need to continue with good routines and structure to help him continue good habits. He is very food motivated which makes training easier. He is an excellent and non-picky eater and earns his “bowl cleaner award” at every meal.
He is a bit of a Velcro boy and follows his people around and loves to be pet. He is normally quiet and has made an excellent work from home office mate; he will roo along with his foster pack though and has a lovely baritone voice. He is the most compliant hound we have ever had during needed care activities like taking pills, getting groomed, taking a bath, wearing a cone (after his neuter), wearing a muzzle when needed, and for the Vet (our clinic LOVES him and can’t wait for his visits).
Nico got the best of all of his breed makeup, he got the sweetness of the Irish Wolfhound, the tall slender elegance of the Borzoi, and the calm content disposition of the greyhound. His forever family is going to be quite lucky to call this boy their own. His ideal forever home will have a nice big yard and a large pack mate or two.

Hi! My name is Bruce (2.5 yrs) and I'm the sweetest, most loyal hound. Foster mom calls me Boss Dog Bruce; she wants me to have some street cred to go with my sweetness.

My pastimes include following my foster parents closely from room to room, chasing furry critters in the backyard, zoomies, playing and tossing toys, and naps on the couch. I'm a roacher, so you'll often see me sleeping belly up, legs in the air. When it comes to my weekly nail trim, I'll lie still for foster mom to dremel my nails, as long as foster dad keeps the treats flowing.

I enjoy car rides, activities, and daily walks where I can sniff and explore. On walks, I'm always looking out for rabbits or squirrels to pursue, and of course the best smells to sniff. Since I'm a clever boy, I prefer mental stimulation such as working on puzzle toys and daily engagement activities with my humans.

My ideal forever home includes an adult who primarily works from home or is retired, a yard for zoomies and a confident dog who will play with me.

In short, if you're looking for a Velcro, loyal and loving adventure buddy, I might be the one for you!
