These babies turn seven weeks old today! Hard to believe our time with these precious babies is almost over. It is a labor of love whelping a litter. 13 babies born on Friday, March 13th, 2026. I know their people are excitedly awaiting their opportunity to come pick them up and take them to their furever homes! Two big weeks ahead: first round of vaccinations and liver shunt test.

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑰 𝑫𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝑳𝒆𝒕 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒚 𝑯𝒐𝒎𝒆 (Why we limit people coming to the Keep)

I get asked this all the time,
and I promise, I understand the question.
If I was getting a puppy, I’d want to see everything too. Where they’re raised, meet the mom, just make sure it all feels right.
So I get it 🤍
But there are a few reasons I don’t allow visitors into my home… and they’re very intentional.
First let’s talk about something most people don’t even think about…
your shoes.
Anything you’ve stepped in vet offices, pet stores, gas stations, parks, even your own yard can carry things like parvo, giardia, coccidia.
You won’t see it. You won’t know it’s there.
But all it takes is one visit, one exposure…
and now it’s inside with a litter of puppies whose immune systems are still developing.
And once something like that is brought in, it’s not just “clean it and move on.”
It spreads fast.
It’s expensive to treat.
And in worst cases you can lose an entire litter.
That’s not a risk I’m willing to take. Ever.
And then there’s the part people don’t always want to think about…
safety.
Cases like the Paul Peavey case and the Florida dognapping shootout are a big reason a lot of breeders have changed how they do things.
To put it simply,
these weren’t just “someone tried to steal a dog” situations.
Homes were targeted.
People were followed.
Dogs were stolen for resale or breeding.
And in one of these cases, it escalated into taking someone’s life.
All because someone knew where the dogs were.
That’s real life. Not just something you see online.
And when you’re raising multiple dogs and litters you have to think about protecting them long-term, not just in the moment.
So for me, it comes down to this:
I’m not running a storefront with people coming in and out all day.
These puppies are born and raised in my home.
They’re part of my daily life.
And it’s my job to protect that environment even if it’s not what everyone expects.
That being said, I also never want anyone to feel like they’re going into this blindly.
So I offer other ways for you to see everything.
We can FaceTime so you can see mom, the puppies, and how they’re being raised in real time.
I send constant photo and video updates.
And we do public meet-ups so you can meet your puppy and the parents safely before bringing them home.
At the end of the day, it’s not about being unwelcoming.
It’s about being protective.
Of my dogs.
Of my puppies.
And of something I’ve worked really hard to build.
And I’ll always choose that 🤍

Friday the 13th Litter
Whelping a litter of Irish Wolfhounds is “killer” work! It is 24/7 for the first two weeks, followed by the third week with occasional breaks and the fourth week with a few more and not as strenuous around the clock care. I look like a sleep deprived, homeless person for the first two weeks, begging for a shower and clean clothes, then I advance to a girl who looks like she bought her clothes off the thrift store rack and needs the assistance of Garanimal tags to coordinate matching outfits! (I had flannel plaid pants and a Christmas shirt the other day!) Finally, I graduate to a person who can answer questions in full sentences and participate in real life once again.
If it weren’t for my village, Rodney Morphew, Troy Hudson and Debbie Hudson, this couldn’t be done, at least not at the level and standard we choose to do it. Many people don’t know how much time, effort and money go into it, but it is labor of love and worth every vacation day I take off to make it happen. It’s good stuff guys and I commend ALL of our Wolfhound breeders who invest in this incredible breed and the preservation of it.
Momma dog will eat six times or more the amount of her regular intake of food to sustain the litter. We choose to pump her full of cooked chicken, venison, yogurt, rice, vegetables, dogfood kibble, puppy food, goats milk and more good stuff. We work hard to be sure all pups get adequate food and supplement when needed. We make sure the pups get moms first milk, (colostrum) and that they receive the very best vet care. We have our mobile vet come to the house/whelping room to do their first full check-up including checking hearts, umbilical’s, palates and removing dew claws.
Every litter is special and should have its own story to make great memories for those getting our dogs as well as fun memories for myself as I receive updates and pictures from the incredible families we have been blessed for our dogs to go to for their furever homes. This group was given the name Friday the 13th Litter as there were 13 pups, born on Friday the 13th! Instead of making gory posts, I chose to have fun with their names and fun comments. The boys being J’s Son (Jason), Krue-grrr (Freddy Krueger), Slimer (Mischievous ghost from Ghost Busters), Joker (Batman/my favorite Jack Nicholson), M & M (Michael Myers), B.J. (Beetlejuice), Chuck-E (Chucky/Childsplay). The girls, Penny (Pennywise), Candy (Candyman), Crystal (Friday the 13th, Crystal Camp Lake), Elvira (Elvira-Mistress of the Dark), Belle (Annabelle), and Wednesday (Addams Family).
The only killing these pups are doing is killing us all softly with all their cuteness! Check the comments on each pup for more funny twists!
*Black Collar-J’s Son (Jason-Friday the 13th) Because he’s Jewels son he is aptly named. Where Jason in the twelve films says nothing, this guy is quite the talker!
*Maroon Collar-Krue-grrr (Freddy Krueger-Nightmare on Elm Street) Krue-grrr fits his name as he is the growly guy in the bunch. Unlike his character, there will be nothing but sweet dreams with this one.
*Green Collar-Slimer (Slimer from Ghost Busters) He is just as mischievous as his counterpart! But hey, “who ya gonna call?
*Dark Blue Collar-M & M-(Michael Myers-Halloween) Simply because my favorite Halloween candy is M & M’s and the blue ones match his collar perfectly! Who doesn’t like M & M’s?
*Light Blue Collar-B.J. (Beetlejuice) He is always up for a rumble, especially with his sisters! I can seriously hear him saying, “It’s show time!”
*Grey Collar-Chuck-E (Chucky from Child’s Play)-Such a lover. All the kisses and all I can sing is…”Chuck-E’s in Love”
*Red Collar-Joker (Batman) The 80’s version because I will always think that Jack Nicholson makes the best Joker! Bright red smile to match the collar…”Wait till they get a load of me!”
*Light Pink Collar-Crystal (Friday the 13th) She was named for the famous camp setting, Crystal Lake Camp, and because she’s so silver that she looks like a crystal.
*Blush Collar-Belle (Annabelle) She’s a wheaten and has such a “doll face!”
*Hot Pink-Elvira (Elvira-Mistress of the Dark) Hot Pink was perfect for her and her name fits because she is the darkest of the girls. Also, “my hearts on fire, for Elvira.” (while we’re stuck in the 80’s…LOL)
*Orange Collar-Penny (Pennywise from IT) She has the most copper in her of all the girls and she’s not one to clown around. In fact, she wouldn’t be caught dead hanging with clowns!
*Yellow Collar-Candy (Candyman) Because of her brindle pattern and the silver stripes, her yellow collar fit perfect with the bumblebee theme. She looks like a beautiful sweet bee, until she stings a nosey brother.
Purple Collar-Wednesday (Addams Family)-She’s the smallest of the pups, but the spunkiest of them all. She does what she wants and gets her way every time, so I say, two snaps for Wednesday!
