Swipe right to watch the color progression on a shaded maine c**n kitten. When Samson(Rafael) was born he came out with a slightly lighter head and a mostly black body. As time went on and his undercoat developed and fur grew, the black shading became more visible. A shaded coat means that about 1/3 of the hair follicle is black and the rest of the hair is not white but actually silver. Shaded pattern is a special gene that exists in tabby cats-to make their tabby stripes so wide it doesn’t look like a stripe, but a shading effect and is called the wide band gene.
