DOOBIE'S STORY
I was introduced to Doobie in early 2021.He had been abandoned at Hilltop Haven rescue outside their gate. He was scared to death. Within hours, Ms. Jean had his trust and shortly later his love. I thank Doobie daily for being a part of my life.A few years later he needed emergency vet care. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle this. So I called Ms. Jean. She dropped what she was doing andimmediately took things under control, rushing Doobie and I (a 45-minute drive) to a respected 24-hour emergency vet. God bless her, she even helped cover the bill. I've added some photos and videos of Doobie's lifestyle over the years since then.
Thank you for taking a minute to hear Doobie's story.

BLUE'S STORY
Blue was born in May of 2022 as an outdoor cat on Teri's porch, an elderly lady in Mulberry. Teri reached out to Hilltop Haven to help her with the mama and four babies. Blue was one of these babies. Mama was extremely unhealthy and required a lot of medical attention. However, Blue and the babies thrived and had a very happy childhood with an indoor area as well as outdoor enclosed area which was built around an actual tree for them to climb.Fast forward to April 16, 2024. At this time, I was volunteering 3-4 hours a day at Hilltop Haven.Jean at Hilltop Haven found Blue in the outdoor area unable to walk. The vet was due in a few hours and examined Blue. However, she recommended euthanasia as his temperature was dropping and his body was shutting down. Jean and I refused to give up on Blue and we rushed him into the house, where she and I began applying hot towels to Blue to try to get his temperature back to normal. After many hours of doing the hot towel routine, Blue's temperature returned to normal and he was stable. She gave fluids , B12 injection, as well as several other things.Jean made an appointment with the acupuncture vet to get a second opinion. The vet gave acupuncture treatments over the next several months, during which time we gave herbs prescribed by the vet, along with activated charcoal and fluids. At this time, we were wondering whether there was a toxin involved such as a black widow spider. In the same time period, beginning in May of 2024, I began massaging and stretching his legs to attempt to get mobility back. Shortly thereafter, I put a harness on him and took him outdoors and took him on extended walks forcing him to use his legs (which he totally loved and still loves to this day).Blue started showing improvement and began walking on his own again. We attribute this to the herbs, the acupuncture and, most of all, the walking therapy three times a day for at least six months and LOTS and LOTS of TLC. The vet's final diagnosis was that she felt he had a stroke. But Blue is very happy and able to walk normal, climb, jump, and is basically back to his old self. We do believe he can only see straight ahead and no side vision. With a lot of help from God and the people at Hilltop Haven who did not give up on him.
Blue is living a very happy normal life .

Paris's story - chapter 1

My neighborhood has a number of indoor/outdoor cats and strays, unfortunately. It has also been the site of cat “dumping” in the past. My family and a few neighbors regularly leave out food, water, and even little shelters for the local cat community. In December, we noticed a couple of new cats in the rotation. They often seemed to visit around the same times, and they looked similar - one had a collar on, and one did not. The one with the collar was female - and she would come by every few days. The one without the collar was male, and he just stuck around. Eventually, he followed us into the house, and we let him stay as it was getting cold outside. We really had little room left, but we’d figure it out. I also began to post on local community groups about the female - asking whoever she belonged to, to please keep her inside. She is small, and it is cold. There have also been regular coyote sightings in the neighborhood.
After a few days, no one claimed her - but neighbors were claiming to be on her feeding route. I also noticed she was starting to stay under our house pretty regularly. She was never claimed and she was hungry, cold, scared - and now I realized that maybe we took in her only companion/bodyguard - maybe brother? She hadn’t tried to come in like he did, and she had the collar, but it now dawned on me that she was most likely another of the many dumped cats that keep appearing here - all seem to have a similar look. In fact, we took in a very similar female two years ago who was dumped… and she was pregnant. As all of this started sinking in, my neighbor advised me that this little lady was in heat, and the local male cats were absolutely all over her - morning, noon, and night.
I reached out to so many shelters, rescues, etc. - at least 28! Most did not reply to me at all. Those that did, said they couldn’t help, or that they would instruct me on how to TNR only. That was not the goal at this point. One person actually emailed me back & said “in Polk County, the only resource available to cats is euthanasia.” Obviously THAT was certainly not an acceptable option. This little sweetheart, and her possible babies, needed and deserved to be saved and loved. Just as I was losing track of the sleepless nights with a very broken heart, I found Jean.
I still feel guilty that I didn’t personally bring this sweet girl in myself, sooner. Though she’s not the only cat roaming my neighborhood, she was always just a bit different than the rest - vulnerable, and not yet hardened by feral life. I made the assumption that she had a home. I tried to let her humans do right by her - but someone had already failed her horribly, and they weren’t stepping forward to acknowledge that. She, like many of the cats I have taken in, had been given up on. Now, she has the second chance she deserves - and the babies she is probably carrying have a chance at life. When no one else seemed to care, there was Jean with Hilltop Haven rescue.

Success story on " Mr. Bob"

MR. BOB'S STORY

March of 2024 we came across a colony of cats
living behind a parking lot of a dentist office. One of
the cats ran up to us asking for food and we noticed he
only had half a tail and the tip was charred black. We knew we had to get him medical attention.
Others in the community had noticed his tail
as well and created a post about him on social media
asking for help for him.
We trapped the cat and brought him to the vet,
who recommended tail amputation ASAP, which is how he got his name Mr. Bob.
After all his medical was finished, we released him back into his colony. But when we went
back the next day to feed them, Mr. Bob was limping.
We reached out to Hilltop Haven for help since
the street life was not treating him well.
After getting to know Mr. Bob's personality during his recuperation time with us, he seemed to be a very social cat but he needed work on his social
boundaries with people.
Hilltop Haven took him in and was amazing at teaching Mr. Bob these skills before adopting him out with another kitten that he had bonded with at the
rescue. He now has a forever home with a wonderful woman who he has fallen head over heels in love with.
We are so happy Mr. Bob is off the streets and
now living his BEST life. Thank you, Hilltop Haven!!

NEVADA'S STORY:
My rescue, "All About Animals Rescue, Delmarva" functions from Pennsylvania and remotely supports certain rescues in Florida. I was told about a section of Hillsborough County with many animals in dire need, and so I work through a few contacts in Florida to help where possible.Contacts there were attempting to trap and spay/neuter neighborhood cats when we were told about an injured cat on someone's property. The property owners were unwilling to give us the whereabouts of the cat, thinking that they would "get into trouble." I was deeply disturbed by this situation, but we were able to call Animal Control, who found him and took him to PRC, Pet Resource Center/Animal Control of Tampa, FL. The cat, on examination, had an enormous infected neck wound with an ulcerated area of what looked like at least 12 to 15 cm. in diameter. He was admitted and treated; however, the prospects for a cat with this type of wound in an animal control facility were clearly bleak. We were fortunate to have contacts who retrieved the cat, and Jean of Hilltop Haven agreed to take him into her rescue and try to heal the wound , did not think a wound that size could be healed without skin grafting, which was not a possibility for a stray cat in Animal Control.Jean accepted him into her Hilltop Haven rescue and began the wound healing treatment. Within what seemed like a few short weeks, the wound was amazingly healed. He was named "Nevada" at Jean's rescue, and he soon became friendly and affectionate in new surroundings with this very serious wound healed. Pictures of him before and after are astounding. Jean agreed to keep this very lucky cat as a permanent resident and his story is a testament to the transformation of this animal that had essentially no future at all without this intervention. The rescue has(affectionately) renamed Nevada as "Nevada a/k/a Bowling Ball." As you'll see from the pictures, he LOVES to eat! This is just one story of the many animals in desperate need that Hilltop Haven rescue continues to save. We are deeply grateful for Nevada's story and so many others.

HILLTOP HAVEN RESCUE. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), which was established in 2014. We started off with trapping and doing TNR in 2009 at a colony of 100 cats/kittens. We are an animal rescue/sanctuary. Our main focus is cats and birds.
We rescue cats/kittens and find them FOREVER HOMES after being spayed/neutered and vaccinated. If a cat is unadoptable because of medical issues or old age, they have a forever home at the sanctuary.
We also provide a sanctuary for birds.
We volunteer for an FIP group to provide emergency FIP medications locally when an FIP cat is in danger and needs the medication immediately.
We provide a safe haven for 4 CH cats, cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a neurological condition, where many times the cat cannot walk. We have provided acupuncture treatment to these cats and they are nowALL walking.
HILLTOP HAVEN'S goal is to give every cat, kitten andfeathered friend that God sends our way the security of a safe haven until they find a FOREVER home. . . or at our rescue if they are not adoptable. They will NEVER fear for their lives again or be hungry again. They will NEVER suffer abuse again at the hands of a human. The terminally-ill ones will NEVER have to die alone and UNLOVED. They will NEVER be euthanized because there is "NO MORE ROOM AT THE INN." This applies to EVERY cat and bird, WHETHER FERAL and scared or tame and loving.
