America's favorite dog! 2 year old female black lab, available now at the Culpeper County Animal Shelter

🖤 Meet Inky! 🖤

Inky is a sweet 2-year-old Black Lab who is ready to find her forever family! 🐾

This girl has SO much love to give. She absolutely loves running and playing in the yard, but she loves nothing more than curling up with her people and giving the best, slobberiest kisses. 🥰💕

Inky is scheduled to be spayed next week, where she’ll also receive her rabies vaccine and heart worm tested. Once that’s all done, she’ll be ready to head out of the shelter and hopefully straight into the loving forever home she’s been waiting for! 🏡❤️

We haven’t had a chance to test Inky with other dogs or kitties at the shelter yet, but one thing we already know for sure, this girl is as sweet as can be and wants all the love in the world. 🥹

Culpeper Humane Society Statement

On Thursday August 13, CHS and MAD Cats met with Tom Underwood, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, for over an hour. Our objectives were to have Shelter policies and protocols posted for public consumption and to resurrect a working monthly meeting of the County Administrator, a BOS Rep, Shelter Director with MAD Cats and CHS. At one time this was SOP, and communication is essential to achieving the kind of Shelter the community wants to support in Culpeper County. Mr. Underwood stated that the new BOS is all about transparency and to that end has already begun posting videos of meetings (with written narratives as well) on the government webpage. This will be a good forum to comment on to steer resolutions. The most recent video meeting is with the Shelter Director, Kyle Roberson, addressing lowering adoption rates and listing what the Shelter’s urgent needs are, what donations are welcomed, and kinds of donations not accepted. Thomas Hutka, the new County Administrator, starts work on September 1. Mr. Underwood said that he would encourage Mr Hutka to meet with us and Mr. Underwood the week of September 8.
We are encouraged by the support we’ve received from other county rescues, Shelter volunteers and the communities’ animal lovers. We need your insights and we will keep you in the loop going forward.

Statement from the Culpeper Humane Society

Culpeper Humane Society (CHS), along with other animal rescue organizations in Culpeper County, have been closely following recent developments at the Culpeper County Animal Shelter.

Over the past several years, the Shelter and local volunteer rescue groups have made important progress working together toward the goal of making Culpeper a no-kill community. We believe that partnership has benefited the animals, the Shelter, and County residents.

As the County considers the future direction and management of the Animal Shelter, CHS has asked the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors to hold a forum with local rescue organizations and other experienced members of the animal-welfare community. Many of these volunteers have decades of experience with rescue, foster care, adoption, spay/neuter programs, community outreach, and finding alternatives to euthanasia. Their knowledge can help the County make informed decisions about the Shelter’s future.

We hope the current period of change becomes an opportunity for Culpeper to build an even stronger shelter and rescue system. Our priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of the animals in our community. That is good for the animals, good for Culpeper County, and good for all of us who live here.

Poor little Yoshi, rescued from a hoarding situation, spent 8 years in a kennel, finally got a wonderful home and life only to be lost. He must be terrified. So we have an area of Chestnut Fork and Pullen Court that he was last seen in, a photo, and a number to call if you see him. He probably will run if pursued so just call the number! Let's get this doggo home!
