HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARIA, AND A THOUSAND THANKS TO MARVELOUS YOU, YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY AND FRIENDS! Recently Maria Golez celebrated her birthday and did something pretty amazing. When people asked her what they could get her for her birthday she chose to honor the memory of her dog Miko by asking friends and family to donate to the Culpeper Humane Society. She said that she had everything she needed but this was something that she could do to honor Miko and give back to the community.
When accepting the donation from Maria and her family, she said that she grew up without any pets and that she never really wanted to own a dog. Then her daughter, Gabrielle, came home from college with not one but two dogs, Lady and Abigail. Maria immediately fell in love with Abby and Lady. She was able to experience the joy of sharing her life with a dog. Lady is still a member of the family, but sadly, Abigail recently passed away, Maria dedicated this donation in her honor.
Maria’s family arranged a birthday celebration at Prince Micheal Winery. The whole family put their efforts into making their fundraiser a success. Her son, Michael acted as the MC. Throughout the celebration. Michael and Gabrielle talked about the Culpeper Humane Society and the many programs we bring to the community. They made the event fun by announcing the current total raised. By the end of the night, they had raised a total of $1,224!
This selfless act on the part of one family and their friends will help so many dogs with spay/neuter services, vaccines and food from our Pet Pantry. At your next family event consider honoring your four-legged friends by holding a family fundraiser to help pets and people in our community.
