ABRA, Inc. ABRA, Inc. (All Breed Rescue Angels) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
Located in NW Indiana is a foster-based rescue group dedicated to saving shelter pets.

We do NOT have a shelter or physical building location. All of our dogs and cats live with volunteers throughout (mostly) Lake and Porter Counties in NW Indiana. Our mission is twofold: to save as many dogs and cats from living their final days in shelters and pounds as we can, and to educate the public so that one day our rescue won’t be necessary. Our Rescue Angels open their homes to foster a d

og or a cat until we are able to get them adopted into a forever home. We pull the most urgent animals: those that have very limited time left, those who won’t be adopted out based on their breed, etc. We do not discriminate. All dogs and cats deserve a chance at love, regardless of age, size, breed, looks, health, etc. We are always in need of foster volunteers. The more foster volunteers we have, the more lives we can save! ABRA provides all vetting and necessary supplies. As a foster volunteer, you provide a warm and loving home! At ABRA, we believe in educating the public on the importance of:

• spaying/neutering
• proper training (the number one reason animals are dumped at shelters is because of behavioral issues that could easily be remedied with proper training)
• the prevalence of dogfighting in our area and its ramifications for the entire community
• proper diet, nutrition and medical care

Even if you don’t order, make sure to come see us at the fairgrounds on the 30th. Meet some bebes, get some goodies from our bake sale, and say hi!

Every order helps save a life! Our 7th annual mum sale is just around the corner! As per uje, mums will NOT be in bloom on the day of pickup (August 30th) but will last you until well into fall.

For a year we kept telling everyone how awesome Rowan is and someone finally listened! He was adopted 2.5 months ago, and this dapper toothless gentleman is truly living his best life. He goes to yoga, daycare, the beach, hosts art lessons, gets to meet new people and at the end of the day, goes home with his people and 3 cat siblings.

Do his adopters have any regrets adopting a 9 year old dog? Positively none.

In a perfect world this trio would get adopted together, they are bonded. At the very least, each will need another cat in their forever home. Ace, Lucky and Chance are 6-7 months old. Ace and Chance are CH babies. Cerebellar hypoplasia means the part of their brain responsible for balance and coordination didn’t develop properly, which means they always look like they are three sheets to the wind!
Ace is a ginger female and is moderate (whereas Chance is mild). She prefers to spend her day sleeping and preferably cozied up to a person!
Chance wobbles but his CH is less pronounced. Both are able to eat and use the litter box independently!
Chance and Lucky are SUPER bonded so we’d love to at least keep the boys together (they make a perfect Halloween pair). They both love being cuddled and kissed and snuggled!
These 3 are truly affectionate, loving babies. Please share!

Someone call Sarah McLachlan, stat!!

Poor Meeko.
Our feisty little bottle baby, Ozzy, is in the same foster home as Meeko.
She does not care for this arrangement. At all.
He is just too much energy for her. 🤣🤣

Meeko is an absolutely beautiful cat. She was adopted out as a kitten six years ago this month, but sadly in December she was returned to us and has been back in foster care since. She is such an easy, low maintenance girl. Well, except for when it’s time to go to the vet office. She’s definitely not a fan. But in her normal day-to-day life, all she wants to do is nap, eat, and get some loving. She is an absolutely precious girl who is waiting for her real forever family.

Super quick recap because I’m exhausted and have a long list of chores ahead of me (who doesn’t??):

Cats: Maximus and Oliver adopted (together) ❤️❤️
Dogs: Echo, Parkay, Shadow Gal adopted ❤️❤️❤️

A few intros:
Adidas is a six month old kitten, he has striking markings and in case you can’t tell from the picture is a complete snuggle bug.

Pumpkin is about year old and has an absolutely fantastic demeanor. He is just a sweet, chill cat who is going to be a fantastic addition to any family.

Gingersnap is about nine years old, she’s a super cutie nine year-old Doxy. When we took her to the vet yesterday, that was the very first vet visit of her life as her previous owner did not believe in medicine. 🤷🏻‍♀️ She is adapting amazingly into her new foster home.

Sasha is about two years old, good with other dogs, absolutely loves children. She has heterochromia (two different colored eyes), soft and silky fur and she’s just beautiful.

Jojo is a 10-year-old boy who came to us from a very crowded shelter. And once upon a time, JoJo had an owner who loved him and we will post more about his history later. But after his owner passed away, he did not get the best of care - he was in super bad shape when he got to the shelter with his nails growing into his paws and wounds and absolutely horrible skin and ear infections. We’re gonna get this sweetheart everything he needs to get him back to 100%.

Some of these babies will be out with us at the Lake Co fairgrounds on Aug. 30th. That’s the day of our mums distribution, but even if you don’t order mums, you should come out and see us! We will have adoptable animals and a bake sale and it’s just going to be a great day!

Any hound lovers out there want to be his savior? Fostering costs you nothing but time, love and patience.

So many updates, so much work, so many animals. And these days I'm so exhausted it takes everything in me to even knock out a post.

Divorce. Moving. New job. Busy family. Behavioral issues (that can be fixed with time and training). That describes stuff ALL of us have gone through. And most of us manage to keep our pets, without any superhuman powers. It's just keeping a commitment.
I know there are circumstances where sometimes it's impossible (terminal illness, for example). But it's absolutely disheartening, the number of people who can't put forth the effort. Do better, people.

But on the other hand - Here's to the people who honor their commitments, even when doing so feels impossible. Here's to the people working so hard to TNR community cats, which feels likes emptying the ocean with a teaspoon (but it makes a difference for THOSE cats). Here's to the people that stop for strays, that always "round up" at the grocery store for whatever this week's charity is, to the people that donate to food pantries, volunteer to help senior citizens, advocate for children, hold open doors, treat retail/restaurant workers with respect, and just naturally are decent, caring folks.

This is Ozzy. He's our bottle baby, found by one of our volunteers. He's a spunky little guy who already has a TON of personality.

I dispersed our last can of kitten food yesterday. If you order some mums, you'll help us feed all the floofs in our care (plus MANY that we are helping feed in the community). I'll put the event link in the comment with instructions on ordering.
