The time has come for us to step away from the property we have been operating from.
Since we still have not been able to locate a new property, we are packing things up and putting them into storage while we continue our search remotely. In the meantime, we will be heading to Montana on May 1 for a couple of months to help family, as Rhonda’s father is still recovering from recent procedures and could really use the extra support.
We want to be very clear: this is not the end of Camp Barry, and we are not walking away from what we’ve built. This is simply a temporary setback while we continue searching for a property where we can rebuild and begin taking dogs in again. Camp Barry is not going away, and the only thing changing is that we no longer have a property where we can shelter animals or invite people to come for help with their dogs.
All of the dogs currently in our care, both personal and adoptable, will be making the trip with us. We will continue working with our adoptable dogs and doing everything we can to help them find the right homes. We are also currently caring for two dogs who will be returning home before we leave.
At this time, we are not offering boarding services. If you are looking for a place to board your dogs, we cannot say enough great things about Chetco River Paws up in Brookings.
Part of this is also practical. Right now, we are spending around $2,000-$2,500 each month between our lease, bills, and caring for the dogs while waiting for the property to be sold and for notice to move. It no longer makes sense to keep pouring money into that uncertainty when we can continue searching for a new place while also being present for family during an important time.
Our goals while in Montana are to keep searching for a property, build connections with rescues and shelters, continue working with our dogs, and help Rhonda’s father as he recovers his health.
This is not goodbye. It is just a change in where we are standing right now. Camp Barry is still here, and we will keep pushing forward, doing everything we can to continue saving dogs and making a difference.
Thank you for continuing to support us. Because of the support we have received from our local community and from people far beyond it, we have been able to help thousands dogs, puppies, and hundreds of people and families. We are truly grateful for every person who has made it possible for us to do this work, and we know there is still so much more to be done.
