The time has come for us to step away from the property we have been operating from.

Since we still have not been able to locate a new property, we are packing things up and putting them into storage while we continue our search remotely. In the meantime, we will be heading to Montana on May 1 for a couple of months to help family, as Rhonda’s father is still recovering from recent procedures and could really use the extra support.

We want to be very clear: this is not the end of Camp Barry, and we are not walking away from what we’ve built. This is simply a temporary setback while we continue searching for a property where we can rebuild and begin taking dogs in again. Camp Barry is not going away, and the only thing changing is that we no longer have a property where we can shelter animals or invite people to come for help with their dogs.

All of the dogs currently in our care, both personal and adoptable, will be making the trip with us. We will continue working with our adoptable dogs and doing everything we can to help them find the right homes. We are also currently caring for two dogs who will be returning home before we leave.

At this time, we are not offering boarding services. If you are looking for a place to board your dogs, we cannot say enough great things about Chetco River Paws up in Brookings.

Part of this is also practical. Right now, we are spending around $2,000-$2,500 each month between our lease, bills, and caring for the dogs while waiting for the property to be sold and for notice to move. It no longer makes sense to keep pouring money into that uncertainty when we can continue searching for a new place while also being present for family during an important time.

Our goals while in Montana are to keep searching for a property, build connections with rescues and shelters, continue working with our dogs, and help Rhonda’s father as he recovers his health.

This is not goodbye. It is just a change in where we are standing right now. Camp Barry is still here, and we will keep pushing forward, doing everything we can to continue saving dogs and making a difference.

Thank you for continuing to support us. Because of the support we have received from our local community and from people far beyond it, we have been able to help thousands dogs, puppies, and hundreds of people and families. We are truly grateful for every person who has made it possible for us to do this work, and we know there is still so much more to be done.

Rowlf (noiw Tucker) has been adopted!

Our last little Muppet is officially heading home, and he really hit the jackpot with this one. He gets to see his sister every day, meet his new dog siblings, and one of them is even a Camp Barry alumni from our early days.

We are so happy for this little guy. He scored such an awesome forever home, and we know he is going to be very loved.

Happy life, sweet boy.

We're going to be putting things out for sale, mostly things that didn't sell during our previous yard sales and have been collecting dust! No prices on anything, bring a box, fill it up and give us an offer. It's all gotta go.

Lots of knick knacks, books, clothing, paintings, pictures, crystalware, china, China cabinet, etc. Some exercise equipment like treadmills. Everything is you haul.

Also selling our chicken coop. Just needs a proper roof cover. It has a raised garden bed built into it that we grew herbs and flowers in. You'll need a trailer to move it and either a tractor to load it or a lot of people to help load it, it's extremely heavy. Built with treated 4x4,2x6,2x4 lumber, and 5/8, 3/4 ply. Asking $400 for it.

Please do not park in front of the Franz building.

Lady is looking for a soft place to land ❤️

Lady is an 11-year-old beagle who recently came into our care through no fault of her own. Her owner is no longer able to care for her after a serious injury, and we’re hoping to find Lady a calm, loving home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by comfort and care.

For the last nine years, Lady has been her person’s whole world. Truly her golden child. She’s been loved, doted on, and has spent nearly every day by her owner’s side. This is a big change for her, and we’d love to see her land somewhere that can offer her that same sense of closeness and companionship.

Lady is a pretty easygoing girl. She’s house trained and will either let herself out or let you know when she needs to go. She’s also crate trained and sleeps comfortably in her crate at night.

She is currently on thyroid medication, which is inexpensive but important to stay consistent with and monitor through routine vet visits.

Like many dogs who’ve had one person as their whole world, Lady can have a little separation anxiety at times, and she does pull on the leash during walks. But she truly just wants to be near her person and part of your daily life.

We were told she may be dog selective, but during her time with us she has done well with the other dogs in our care without any issues. She’s also been around our cat and prefers to loudly acknowledge his existence rather than actually do anything about it.

Lady’s favorite thing to do is find a cozy spot and relax, but she also enjoys getting out for walks and following her nose. She has that classic beagle curiosity and would likely love simple scent games or little adventures.

She’s a sweet, low maintenance companion, and we’re really hoping to find someone who can give her a safe, quiet place to land and love her through this next chapter the way she’s always been loved.

If you think Lady might be a good fit for your home, please reach out to us directly or fill out an adoption application.

Casper is back with us, and we’re hoping to find him another soft place to land.

He’s a 5 year old chihuahua mix with what we like to call a little bit of “grumpy old man” energy. He’ll let you know how he feels about strangers at first, but give him a minute, a little patience, and a couple pets… and suddenly he’s your best friend and wants all the affection.

Casper was originally adopted from us, but after his owner unexpectedly passed away, he found his way back. It’s been a big change for him, but he’s settling in and showing us what an easy, low key companion he really is.

He’s the kind of dog who is perfectly happy carrying around a stuffed toy, chewing on a nylabone, or finding a sunny spot to nap in. He loves his blankets, is crate trained, and as far as we know he’s house broken.

Casper has done well around other dogs and cats, but he can be a little possessive of his toys, so that’s something to be mindful of in a multi-animal home.

He’s had some dental work in the past and has had multiple teeth pulled, so he’ll need someone who’s mindful of that and keeps him on an appropriate diet moving forward.

He’d do best in a quieter home where he can take his time getting to know new people and then settle into his favorite routine: naps, snacks, and snuggles.

If you’re looking for a simple, loyal little companion, Casper might be your guy.

Over the past month and a half, things have been quiet here at Camp Barry, and we wanted to share why.

In mid February, Rhonda received a call from her family in Montana that her father had suffered a severe brain bleed and was life flighted to Billings. She left the next day and spent the following weeks helping care for him through two surgeries, the first of which came with complications.

We’re incredibly grateful to share that his health has improved significantly, and Rhonda was able to return home a couple of days ago.

At the time, we chose to keep this private. Thank you to our community for your understanding while we navigated something important behind the scenes.

We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to our friends and volunteers who stepped up during this time. With only one person here handling day to day care, your help made it possible for the dogs to continue getting out, stretching their legs, and staying on routine. It truly meant everything.

So what does moving forward look like right now?

We currently have four adoptable dogs: Rawlf, Mazi, Casper, and Babs. We’ll be sharing updated posts and bios for each of them soon.

We are still closed to intakes, as nothing has changed with our current property situation.

Behind the scenes, we are also beginning to pack and organize supplies for storage or donation, as we continue preparing for the possibility of needing to temporarily close or relocate operations.

Thank you all for being here, for your patience, and for continuing to support the dogs in our care.

A little Camp Barry update 🐾

It’s been a little quiet on our pages lately. Between personal life, rescue logistics, and some pretty wild weather, social media hasn’t been our strongest focus — but the dogs have.

Here’s where things stand:

✨ Oscar is currently out on a trial adoption (we’re hopeful!).
🐾 Rawlf — his brother, is still available and waiting.
🐾 Mazi and Casper are also looking for their people.

We also received DNA results back on the Muppets litter (Rawlf, Oscar, Gonzo, Camilla, and Fozzy). Let’s just say… they’re a little bit of everything and 100% good dogs. We’ve attached one of the results for fun — it definitely gave us a few surprises.

As many of you know, we remain closed to new intakes. We are still operating under the expectation that we could receive a 60-day notice on our current property at any time. Because of that, our focus has to stay on stability for the dogs currently in our care.

We are still actively searching for properties locally that we can purchase and that meet the needs of the rescue. We have received a few very generous offers for properties outside the area, and while we truly appreciate those, our goal is to remain here and continue serving Del Norte County.

We’ll keep doing the work, keep advocating for these dogs, and keep moving forward — even when things feel uncertain.

Thank you for being here with us, and get outside to enjoy our great weather today! 🖤
