Bonk is flying to rescue!

A heartfelt thank you to the Perfectly Imperfect Pup rescue team and to foster/volunteer Allison for making this journey possible.

Your kindness, dedication, and compassion helped transport this sweet blind boy to the airport so he could begin his trip to North Carolina and his next chapter in life.

Because of your efforts, Bonk had the chance to travel safely toward a brighter future. We are incredibly grateful for your time, care, and commitment to giving him this opportunity.

Sweet Lilly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. 🌈💔

Lilly was found as a stray under a bridge near the boat ramps and was brought to us by a kind-hearted Good Samaritan. She was covered in mange, severely underweight, and had clearly known far more hardship than any dog ever should.

A wonderful foster stepped up and gave Lilly something she may never have experienced before—love, comfort, and a safe place to call home. For the first time in her short life, she knew what it felt like to be cherished.

Sadly, Lilly was much sicker than anyone realized. Despite everyone's efforts, she was suffering from organ failure. Surrounded by people who loved her, she passed peacefully, knowing kindness, warmth, and compassion.

While her time with us was far too short, we take comfort in knowing that her final days were filled with love. She mattered. Her life mattered. And she left paw prints on our hearts that will never fade.

Fly high, sweet girl. We all love you and will never forget you. ❤️🐾🌈

Channing and Madison are finally getting some much-needed rest and a break from kennel life. ❤️

These two sweet babies were heartlessly dumped on a local dirt road, and it took several days of patient effort to bring them to safety. Just look into their eyes—you can see how exhausted they are from everything they've been through.

Now they're safe, warm, and getting the chance to decompress while they wait for their forever homes. Channing and Madison can be adopted together or separately, and we're excited to share that Channing's adoption fee has been fully sponsored!

If you've been thinking about adding a loving companion to your family, please consider giving one (or both!) of these deserving pups the happy ending they deserve.

Look at all the wonderful cats the shelter currently has that are SPONSORED! Thanks to a very generous donation from two wonderful people, some cats will now have sponsored fees. And these sweet cats are just the beginning! Visit the shelter today from 11am-4:30pm to view all available cats.

Remember Theodore? ❤️

A year ago, one of our officers found Theodore at the bottom of a steep embankment near the river. At first, we thought he was gone. He was skin and bones, unable to move, and in heartbreaking condition.

But when the officer got closer, Theodore lifted his head, wagged his tail, and showed us he wasn’t ready to give up.

We knew we had to act fast.

Theodore had no use of his hind legs, but our officer refused to leave him behind and worked tirelessly to get him safely up the embankment. We knew this could not be where his story ended.

With the help of Newton County Paws and Purpose, dedicated volunteers, and an incredible rescue organization, Theodore was given the chance he deserved.

Today, we are thrilled to share that Theodore has made a FULL recovery and is living his very best life in New York! 🐾❤️

THIS is why we do what we do.

Theodore never gave up, and neither did we.
Happy life, sweet boy. We love you, and we are so grateful to have been a small part of your incredible journey. 🐶💕

Newton County Animal Services ran the numbers today, and we're proud to share our progress so far this year!

🐾 460 animals adopted
🐾 161 animals transferred to rescue partners
🐾 95 animals reclaimed by their owners

These outcomes put us at an 84% live release rate—just 16 percentage points away from reaching the no-kill benchmark. While achieving and maintaining no-kill status remains our goal, we will always balance that goal with our responsibility to protect public safety and serve the residents of Newton County.

Every adoption, rescue transfer, foster placement, volunteer hour, and community supporter helps make these successes possible. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in giving these animals a second chance.

Let's keep up the great work and continue making Newton County Animal Services the very best place for animals who find their way to us. Together, we can save even more lives! ❤️🐶🐱

We are absolutely drowning in cat and kitten season right now. While animals continue to come through our doors, we currently have 120 cats and kittens in our care... yes, 120! 🐱💔

These sweet babies are waiting for loving homes, and we desperately need adopters to help us make room for the animals still coming in every day.

All cats and kittens are just $40! This adoption fee still includes all of their veterinary care and vetting.

Today, Newton County Animal Services had the opportunity to visit Alcovy High School's Summer Camp for Career Day!

Officer Dukes spoke with the students about the work we do every day to serve our community and highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership. We enjoyed sharing information about animal care, public safety, and the many ways Animal Services helps both pets and people.

Thank you to Alcovy High School for inviting us to be a part of this great event. We love getting out into the community, connecting with local youth, and helping educate the next generation!
