Happy Halloween! Whidbey Island has more windy and rainy weather rolling in so please keep yourself and your furry friends safe! We stopped by WAIF’s Freeland cat cottage this afternoon to pet and play with the cats and also take a few photos to share. We hope you’ll stop in to meet these great cats if you’re thinking of adding a new kitty to your family. Please give us a call at (360) 678-8901 if you have any questions. It was delightful mayhem yesterday afternoon when shelter staff brought the seven 9-week-old husky puppies out into a small play area. The puppies played with toys, people, and each other, having a tail waggin’ good time! We have put together this action packed video of them that we hope you’ll enjoy. Notice that shelter staff has already started working on puppy training as they gently nudge the puppies into a sitting position before rewarding them with a treat. The puppies are available for adoption hold but will remain at the shelter until they are spayed or neutered. Learn more about the puppies at https://waifanimals.org/dog/husky-puppies/ . Please give the shelter a call at (360) 678-8901 if you have questions. Find adoption information at https://waifanimals.org/adopt-a-pet/.

Puppies! WAIF’s Coupeville shelter has seven cute and frolicsome husky puppies who can be put on adoption hold and then go home after they are spayed/neutered next week. The puppies are now about 9 weeks old. They are friendly, playful, and bouncy youngsters with happy wagging tails. We do believe they will do best in homes with families who are familiar with the husky breed and will work with them on all aspects of training. We have pictures of the puppies that were taken this afternoon and also of adult dog Petunia who was out in the big play yard. We didn’t forget the cats! We have three new adult cats to introduce and photos of a few of our older kittens who are still awaiting new homes. Please give the Coupeville shelter a call at (360) 678-8901 if you have questions about these or other animals in our care. Learn more on our website at https://waifanimals.org/.

October is National Pit Bull Appreciation and Awareness Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a pit bull adoption? Baxter went home this month after four months at our shelter. (He was so excited to go home, we could hardly get him to sit for a picture!) Pit bulls are among the dog breeds most commonly found in animal shelters because public perception of the breed has been tainted by negative stereotypes. But pit bulls are just like any other dog breed—individuals with unique personalities and temperaments. In fact, despite widespread misconceptions, pit bulls are actually known for their friendliness toward people! Click the link below to learn more about pit bulls.
