This Orca Action Month, WAIF is proud to support the Orca Behavior Institute in raising awareness for critically endangered Southern Resident killer whales.

For the month of June, WAIF will host one of 75 unique artworks featuring life-size orca dorsal fins on display throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

WAIF animal care technician Ashton Mead is an Orca Network volunteer and naturalist-in-training. Stop by our Coupeville shelter and ask for Ashton at the front desk to learn more about Southern Residents, this community art project, and how we can help conserve our iconic local orca pods.

The dogs had a fun outing today over at Fort Casey!

Despite the overcast weather, we definitely felt the summer warmth and even met another Whidbey local who was very curious about our dogs. 👀🦭

Interested in taking one of these dogs home? We are extending our 50% off adoption special through June 28! Stop by our shelter to meet them (or any of our other dogs or cats), fill out an application, and bring home your new best friend just in time for a summer full of adventure!

Believed to be a German shorthair pointer mix and just under a year old, Goose is a happy, friendly fellow with boundless energy. He has a sleek black and white coat and loving big brown eyes. Goose is very food motivated and knows the commands sit, down, and shake. He does need some work on obedience skills. The American Kennel Club says German shorthair pointers “thrive on vigorous exercise, positive training, and lots of love” and that sounds like just what Goose is looking for in his new home. He weighs 60 lb. Please give the shelter a call at (360) 678-8901 if you have questions about this great pup. Learn more at waifanimals.org.

Every time a cat or dog gets adopted, it’s the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. For shelter resident Luke, his start wasn’t like the others. Arriving at the shelter as a puppy back in 2023 and being returned twice, Luke didn’t lose sight of finding a forever home. In over the 500 days Luke was a shelter dog, he became a staff and volunteer favorite with his goofy smile and funny personality. He also became an excellent landscaper!

Today marks a long awaited beginning for Luke. WAIF wishes Luke and his new family a happy start to this new chapter.
