Frustrated by leash pulling? You're not alone! Enjoyable, stress-free walks are possible by training your dog to walk on a loose leash. This fosters a deeper connection and communication. A calm walk shows understanding and respect, making outings a pleasure, not a tug-of-war.

Loose-leash walking benefits extend beyond your comfort. Constant pulling can cause physical discomfort for your dog, straining their neck and throat. Mentally, it can create anxiety and frustration. Relaxed walks allow calmer exploration, making them more receptive to training and socialization.

A well-behaved dog on a leash is a more welcome community member. You'll feel confident taking them to various dog-friendly places. This opens up new shared experiences.

To help, I've created a comprehensive, free training log. It guides you step-by-step, allowing you to track progress and stay motivated. Consistency is key to achieving enjoyable walks. Download your free training log: caninecommissioner.com/free-training-log

While the adage "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" exists, it's actually possible with patience and the right approach. Older dogs may learn at a different pace and have established routines, but their brains still retain plasticity. Using treats, praise, and gentle guidance to reward desired behaviors, and help them to understand the undesirable behaviors. Start with simple commands and gradually increase complexity. Consistency is essential, along with understanding any physical limitations the dog might have. Tailoring the training to their individual personality and history can also greatly enhance success.

Many cleaning products contain chemicals that are harmful to pets. Keep dogs away from areas being cleaned and ensure products are stored safely.
Many commonly used household cleaning products contain a variety of chemicals that can be harmful, even fatal, to pets, especially dogs who explore their environment with their mouths and noses. During spring cleaning, it's crucial to take extra precautions to ensure canine companions are not exposed to these potentially dangerous substances. When cleaning floors, countertops, bathrooms, and other areas, keep dogs completely away from the rooms or surfaces being treated. Do not allow them back into these areas until all surfaces are completely dry and any lingering fumes have dissipated. Additionally, all cleaning products, including but not limited to detergents, disinfectants, polishes, and air fresheners, should be stored securely out of reach of dogs. This includes keeping them in closed cabinets or on high shelves that your dog cannot access. Even seemingly small amounts of residue or accidental ingestion can lead to serious health issues, ranging from skin and eye irritation to vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory problems, and even neurological damage. If you suspect your dog has come into contact with a cleaning product, contact your veterinarian immediately. Keeping your cleaning supplies safely stored and your dog away from cleaning areas are essential steps in protecting their health and well-being during your spring cleaning endeavors.
