Nice play comes from a nice mindset! Working on place in between wrestle sessions.

Did you know that releasing your dog back to play can be more powerful than rewarding with a treat? Release them back to what they were doing and pretty soon you’ll see them more willing to focus on you knowing they don’t have to compete with their fun!

We often hear "well...my dog does it at HOME perfectly, but anywhere else I can't even get their attention!"

Dogs often struggle when the enviornment changes because its new, exciting or maybe a little overwhleming! Teaching your dog simple tricks and pattern games can help your dog be more successful in new locations. Set your dog up for success by slowly building up to more distracting areas, ex. Don't start at Willamette Park! Start in your house, your backyard, your front yard, or an empty parking lot!

A peak into what we work towards in Focus & Foundations! Khao is about to start her walk at a busy park. First, we look for a composed dog in the car (she likes to whine and paw at the door when she wants out). Next, we want the dog to wait politely as they get leashed. Once released out of the car, they tell us if they are ready to focus and start the walk with offering to check in! Khao makes it look easy but she has worked hard to build this level of focus out and about.

Are leash walks frustrating? Pulling in all directions followed by zoomies as soon as you get home? Walking the same path in the neighborhood is predictable and boring to our pups, they start anticipating exciting spots, pulling to new scents in the distance etc. Or maybe we stared walking hiking trails without any focus and are now getting dragged to the viewpoint! Mix up your walk with games, hand touches, place training on strange surfaces, tricks and release to sniff! Not only will this help with their behavior but they'll return home satisfied mentally and physically.
