Core strengthening and postural stability are desired outcomes of certain therapeutic exercises performed in horses. A recent study, conducted at the University of Tennessee, aimed to quantify changes in muscle activation at a walk and trot in horses traveling over eight consecutive ground poles evenly spaced in parallel fashion in a straight line, and with hindquarter and abdominal elastic resistance bands applied at 25% stretch. Researchers found that the use of ground poles at a walk resulted in an increase in the longissimus dorsi and re**us abdominus muscles. The use of ground poles at a trot resulted in an increase in the re**us abdominus muscles. The hindquarter and abdominal elastic resistance bands resulted in an increase in the left re**us abdominus muscle.
These findings provide support regarding changes in muscle activation when using ground poles to increase core and epaxial muscle engagement. While an effect on core muscle activation was identified with the elastic resistance bands at a trot, further research is needed to further characterize their effects on muscle activation. Very neat study showing the effectiveness of massage in the healing of injuries.

I love seeing studies like this that help encourage us learn to manage things not only in our equine partners but also in ourselves.

I was taught while learning body work that it is equally important to take care of our own bodies as ourselves, and that often injuries and weaknesses in our bodies show up in our riding and our horses.

It may seem like something that can be skipped or avoided but taking care of issues in ourselves can make enormous differences in our riding. I’ve seen it myself in my own journey over the last few years with physical therapy and wellness just how much my improvements helped improve my horses. When they no longer had to compensate for me, we became stronger as a whole and as a team.

On the flip side when I’ve let myself backslide and struggle both my equine partners and myself struggle as well. So much so that I can see it show up in body work sessions later on.

Using a controlled massage system, researchers found that treatment led to greater repair and strength recovery in mice.

What type of vibration does the EquiVibe provide? 🔺🔺VERTICAL🔺🔺
Is this important⁉️Yes, this is very important. It is preferred by medical professionals, trainers and owners alike. Reason is, vertical vibration is natural movement. When you walk or run, your feet, arms, legs are moving up and down. Same for the horse or any animal. NOT sideways or in a circular motion. EquiVibe is designed in a way to reproduce vertical vibration. EquiVibe is a stable, stationary vibration platform. There is no wobble, no side to side movement, no circular motion. Those movements are not real world, they are not real physics. Medical professionals say, because of gravity, vertical motion on a stable platform is. Therefore it does not create stress, unlike other vibration platforms. Simply it provides micro hits of gravity that enhances the gravity that is already there in order to create the clinical and training compression that we need to excite our nerves, to mobilize joints and to strengthen our muscles to enhance our function.
