Masquerade in the front, he has a leash on, it's just not viable in this picture. He been coming out to work, and play with us since he was a very young pup! He is about a year old and now and doing wonderfully. He gets to come out and help work with other dogs on behaving properly around strange dogs. His owner took this picture.

I am in the middle standing with Simba, who has been coming out here for about a month for training. He was extremely dog reactive, and had no leash manners. This is why he is muzzled, for his safety as well as other dogs safety. Now, he can calmly sit between 2 dogs, he has experienced dogs playing behind a fence, running right at him and barking while playing, as well as working with their people. All of this would have set him off in the past, but with the right system of corrections and rewards tailored to simbas individual needs he has been able to kick his old habits and trust that the humans have things under control.

Anubis, one of my dogs is in the back. He was handled by my brother.

- in a controlled situation like this, the muzzle on simba may be unnecessary, however I will always be on the safe side and use proper safety equipment. It is also best to practice for real life, in real life simba will be walked in a muzzle because other people don't always contain their dogs properly. The muzzle will allow his owners peace of mind, and the chance to stop anything before it starts. He will also be walked in a neighborhood where he will encounter barking dogs, dogs playing, people put with their dogs, and many other things. We will do everything we can to prepare him for this in a safe, and controlled way.

Simba and I are practicing how to behave off leash on my property. Here we did some recalls!

Simba doesn't care about treats outside, and good boy is enough of a reward for him that he knows he has done what is needed. The recall wasn't followed by another command which means he is free to move about still.

I haven't posted about simba yet, but we have been working together for about a month now, and he has come so so far its absolutely incredible.

When I met Simba, he had no respect for leashes, he couldn't go on walks, his owners couldn't even get a collar on him. He would fight the leash by actually trying to rip it out of your hands, which as you can imagine lead to painful scratches. He was extremely overstimulated by EVERYTHING. New people, the sight of other dogs outside of the one he lives with, chickens. You name it, it set Simba off into a reactive fit.

After figuring out what Simba responded best to we started making very quick progress. I hot him to sit to have collars put on, and leashes connected to those collars. We got him sitting and waiting at the door, and we got him to start totally ignoring chickens and horses in the first week. Since the it has been a very fast up hill climb for Simba and his owners! Their 3 year old when they were dropping him off for his week of a board and train said "you can keep him" now she says "I like him! He can stay!"

This picture is a huge step, and a new adventure Simba would have never gotten the opportunity to go on without a training plan tailored to him, his needs, and his family's needs. Simba got to go to his owners car dealership and hang out with them all day yesterday, then he got to go on his first ever walk around his neighborhood! I brought one of my dogs along to test out his reaction to seeing other dogs on walk, walking past them, and having them walk past him. He struggled a bit in the beginning, but towards the end, he wasn't even paying the other dog any mind. A small quick glance, then he looked straight back ahead and continued about his walk in peace!

I am so unbelievably proud of this guy, and his family. They have put in the work, they have followed through and Simba is seeing the benefits. It's truly incredible what the right training plan, and some dedication can do for our 4 legged family members. We still have some work left to do, and I know he will excel through. He is becoming the absolutely wonderful family companion that he wants to be!

I am going to try and post more on this page, but I get so involved with the dogs and working on what they are here to learn that I just forget to post.

Here is chase earning his dinner, working on a down stay on a matt while I work on making a leash! He is doing wonderfully! So far he has only tried getting up twice and we have been here for about 5 minutes, which is a long time when you are still learning self control.

You got this though buddy! You'll be staying like a champ soon enough
