Animal Voice Alliance - AVA of SC

Animal Voice Alliance - AVA of SC What would we like people to think about the greatness of our nation? All too often these things happen. Daily, in fact.

AVA of SC is a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to giving a voice to companion animals to provide humane treatment by initiating and strengthening legislation. Speaking for the ones that can’t

Advocating for Animals in Horry and Georgetown County

Horry and Georgetown County, SC: Animal welfare is everyone’s business. The treatment of companion animals in South Carolina is consistently leaving

us ranked in the bottom tier of worst states to be an animal, according to the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), which have conducted studies based on multiple data points for the past 9 years.

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Mahatma Gandhi. When confronted with pictures of starving animals with every rib showing that were pulled out of area puppy mills, or jellied eyes from years of neglect, faces mutilated by fights or fur so matted it’s nearly impossible to cut, is this the image that we want to represent our moral progress? According to Madonna of the Mills, a documentary delving into the seedy world of puppy mills, 500,000 puppies are born in puppy mills and sold in pet stores every year. 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year, nationwide, according to a statistic from the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy. Dogs used for dog fighting endure starvation, electrocution, hanging, drowning, being used as a bait dog and many other inhumane treatments according to the ALDF. AVA was formed by a group of people with a similar heart in an effort to initiate and strengthen legislation in South Carolina. Specifically, topics AVA is currently working on are as follows. Puppy Mills
Dog fighting
Spay and neuter legislation
Dog registration/licensing

EDIT: We want to clarify that our recent post was solely a request for legal assistance.
Kind Keeper is a small nonprofit seeking representation, and this is not a space for negativity or commentary toward any parties involved. We kindly ask that all interactions remain respectful.
At this time, we are only looking to connect with real estate attorneys or law offices who may be able to assist us, whether pro bono or at a reduced rate.
If you are able to help, please reach out directly.
Thank you for your understanding and support. 🐾

🚨 Kind Keeper Needs Your Help 🚨
Kind Keeper, our small but mighty nonprofit, is currently facing a legal challenge and is in urgent need of a real estate attorney willing to step in pro bono or at a reduced flat rate.
We are being sued for 1/2 an acre of land, and we need experienced legal representation to help us navigate this situation and continue our mission of caring for animals in need.
If you or someone you know can help, please reach out to Belinda at the shelter at 843-427-4388.
Every bit of support makes a difference, for our team, and for the animals who depend on us. 🐾

PLAN FOR PETS

As activity in the tropics increases, it's important that you include your pets in your emergency plans.

Planning for your pets, during any emergency, should include:

o Updating your pet's microchip information & tags
o Have a plan for where your pet can go if you have to leave your home
o Ensuring your pet has proper shelter
o Taking updated photos of your pet
o Knowing where your pet's leash, harness, collar, carrier, and/or crate are located, and making them easily accessible
o Having several days of food and water for your pet

Take advantage of the "blue sky" days now, and prepare for when skies are gray. Follow Horry County Emergency Management for local updates.

Reminder...please cut your plastic holders before discarding. Animals are at risk of death if you don't. It just takes a moment to save a life.
