Teaching a dog to sit: Once a dog has just learned the command to sit - one of the most common mistakes that I hear from family and friends is repeating the same command “sit” 10 times in 20 seconds.
All this does is excite the dog and make it worse. The dog may eventually sit but this is the worst thing you can do once a dog has just learned a new command.

They need time to process it, and need you to remain calm yet assertive. Tell the dog “sit” with a calm and confident voice and then give her or him a few seconds to process the command.

If the dog doesn’t sit after a about 7 seconds calmly and assertively repeat it again and wait a about 7 seconds again.

A lot of this has to do with your body posture. A dog is more visual. I can get my dogs to sit without saying a word, yet others struggle to get the same dogs to sit even with words.

A lot of training dogs, comes with training the humans too. 🤷‍♂️

Need Your Dog Trained?

I've been receiving a lot of messages about more info on the dog training and the prices. If you go to my pages about section and click on "read more" all of the info is right there.

However because multiple people have been messaging on WhatsApp and FB asking me, I'm going to paste all the info here below.

I do basic dog training, walking and if your dog has behavioural problems, I can see what I can do, as each situation is unique. I mostly used positive reinforcement methods (which involved praising positive behaviour which overrides the negative unwanted behaviour. It’s a method I have tried and used for years which works. I also give the owners the necessary skills and knowledge regarding their dogs.

• For aged 4 months - 15 months old for 1 hour sessions for a week 6 months- 15 months (5 days) R500. This involves basic obedience training, such as walking on a leash, sitting, staying, laying down, ball fetching, not jumping up, waiting to eat food on command etc.

• For dogs aged 16 months to 2 years for 2 hour sessions for a week (5 days) R650

• For dogs older than 2 years for 2 hour sessions for a week (5 days) R750.

• For puppies aged 6 weeks to 28 weeks of age for a 1 hour session R100. This involves socialisation and very basic obedience training such as sitting, communication skills and valuable information to the owners. This is a crucial stage of the puppies development and is absolutely key for their future.

• For behavioural problems of any age I will access the situation for free (in Carletonville) and a call out fee for other areas, and then a price can be discussed as each case is unique.

Please note that these prices only apply until the end of April 2019. These prices compared to most that charge R200p/h and above is fairly reasonable.

Training a 3 or 4 year old Jack Russel Named Spot. All in all he's literally only received 1 hour's training. He is up for adoption! Please Share to find him a home.
There is also a 2 year old German Shephard named Wilona (meaning hoped for). She is also up for adoption. It is prefered they get adopted together, altough not a must.
