Today was a long but productive day in Greenville, IN at the OFA eye clinic hosted by the Kokomo Dog Club! We made the trip to get 3 of my girls’ annual CAER eye exams updated, and all three passed with flying colors

We also got to spend time around the dog show crowd, which is always an interesting experience. My girls sat quietly, calmly, and politely for nearly 3 hours of waiting without a fuss—something I was incredibly proud of. Good dogs don’t happen by accident.

I did overhear some commentary about doodles while we were there—comments about them being “too expensive” and the usual assumptions that tend to come with doodles. And honestly, days like today are exactly why I do what I do.

People aren’t simply paying for a puppy—they’re investing in years of intentional work. Extensive health testing. OFA evaluations. Specialist clearances. Genetic screening. Temperament evaluation. Training. Titles. Early socialization. Thoughtful pairing decisions. Time. Education. Travel. Mentorship. The financial and emotional heartbreak when i wash a dog who may not meet the standards I have set for myself. The real financial investment I have in building a program the right way.

And beyond that? Families who choose one of our puppies aren’t just handed a dog and sent on their way. They’re choosing me too—my ongoing support, training guidance, resources, experience, and a breeder who genuinely stays invested in their dog for life. That relationship matters.

What made me the proudest today wasn’t just the eye clearances—it was watching my doodles represent themselves beautifully in a space where some people assume they don’t belong. Three calm, quiet, well-behaved doodles sitting patiently for nearly three hours in a busy show environment. That says a lot.

I would absolutely love to see more doodles in spaces like OFA clinics, dog sports, therapy work, titling events, and performance venues. If we want to continue improving these dogs, responsible breeders have to show up, do the work, hold ourselves to higher standards, and prove what thoughtfully bred doodles can be.

Because this has never been about producing trendy dogs.

It’s about building better doodles. ❤️

One of the most rewarding parts of breeding is getting to watch our puppies grow up and thrive with their families !
This week I got to see a couple of my favorite girls again, and getting to work with them toward their titles has been so special! I cannot wait until next week to see them and a few more of our families!

I’m currently working with several Dessie’s Doodles families who are pursuing their:
• AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
• AKC Community Canine (CGCA)
• AKC Urban CGC (CGCU)
• AKC Trick Dog Novice (TKN) titles

For those unfamiliar, these titles are designed to showcase dogs with good manners, confidence, trainability, and strong relationships with their handlers.

The CGC focuses on foundational obedience and real-life manners like polite greetings, walking nicely on leash, staying calm around distractions, and being a respectful member of society.
CGCA builds on those skills with more advanced public behavior and handling in busier environments.
CGCU takes those skills into urban/public settings where dogs learn to confidently navigate crowds, traffic, stores, elevators, and everyday life.
TKN (Trick Dog Novice) is such a fun one because it highlights engagement, teamwork, and learning through positive interactions and tricks!

One thing I am incredibly passionate about is proving that doodles are capable of being more than “just pets.” These titles help demonstrate the temperament, intelligence, stability, and trainability that I work so hard to preserve in my program. Seeing puppies from my lines go on to earn titles, become therapy dogs, service dogs, or simply exceptionally well-rounded family companions is one of the biggest compliments I could ever receive as a breeder.

I would absolutely LOVE to encourage more of our puppy families to get involved in training and titling their dogs! You do not need a competition dog or a “perfect” dog to participate. Even beloved family pets can earn these titles!

Honestly, one of the greatest benefits is the bond it creates between families and their dogs. Training together builds communication, confidence, trust, and connection in such a beautiful way. It gives dogs mental enrichment and purpose while helping owners better understand their dog too.

Our doodles are capable of amazing things, and I love helping families discover just how much potential their dogs truly have 💛

Lady got a big girl haircut today and she looks like such a little lady now!

We’re getting ready to have updated photos done for all of the current program dogs soon and I honestly cannot wait to show everyone off! Our last official photoshoot was back in November 2024, and between spending most of 2025 pregnant and sick as a dog 😅, keeping up with updated photos just was not happening.

Our program has changed a lot since then too. We’ve retired several of our girls from some of our earlier litters and also made the hard decision to wash a few dogs that just didn’t meet the standards and expectations we have for Dessie’s Doodles. While those decisions are never easy, protecting the integrity of our program will always come first.

I’m so excited to finally showcase the beautiful dogs that make up our current crew and the direction our program is heading 💛

This past weekend I did something WAY outside my comfort zone… ✈️🐾

I flew all the way from Indiana to Oregon for the Northwest Doodle Breeder Gathering—and if you know me, you know that’s a big deal. My flying experience usually looks like flying into an airport, delivering a puppy, and then turning right back around to hop on a plane home. Quick, in and out. What little traveling I HAVE done has almost all been south of Indiana and always with family.

So flying across the country by myself and walking into a room full of breeders where I didn’t personally know a single person… yeah, that felt a little crazy at first...But wow… I am SO glad I did it. 💛

I had the opportunity to meet breeders from all over the United States, build real connections, and be surrounded by people who are just as passionate about their dogs as I am. There’s something really special about being in a room full of people who truly get it.

I learned so much—things that I’m already excited to bring back home and implement into my program. We talked about all kinds of things. Everything from structure and evaluation, to marketing, complications that can occur during and after pregnancy, to better supporting our puppies and families long-term, and training. I did not get nearly as many pictures as I would have liked because I was just trying to take in as much as I possibly could during the time I had available to me.

Trips like this remind me why I care so deeply about what I do. I’m always striving to grow, learn, and raise the bar—not just for my program, but for every puppy and family that comes through Dessie’s Doodles.

Grateful, inspired, and honestly a little proud of myself for taking the leap. 🫶

Now back home to my dogs… and putting all this knowledge to work. 🐶✨

Today kicked off the and I have really enjoyed getting to meet all the other breeders and learning about their program! Could you believe I flew across country, and the first friendly face I got to meet when I walked into my hotel was another doodle breeder from INDIANA?!

It was a fun evening and I am looking forward to (sleeping because I have been running on 4 hours of sleep in the last 24 hours) and getting to meet more people tomorrow!
