One thing Iβm no longer going to do is guarantee that a puppy will stay a miniature.
Hereβs why.
This isnβt about my breeding program. This is about being honest.
If youβve spent any time learning about dachshunds, youβve probably already discovered that two miniature parents can still produce puppies that mature into small standards. Genetics simply donβt work like a guarantee.
Lately Iβve heard stories of people becoming angry because their dog ended up a couple of pounds bigger than they expected. That honestly makes me sad, because somewhere along the way weβve started focusing more on a number on the scale than the amazing dog standing in front of us.
Years ago I had more very tiny miniatures. Most of those dogs are now retired. Today my adults are generally around 11 pounds and up. Some are tweenies, some are small standards, and I absolutely love that. Theyβre athletic, sturdy, healthy, and still perfectly sized to be your lap dog and best friend.
So if you message me asking for a guaranteed miniature, Iβm going to be honest and tell you I canβt promise that.
And if youβre only looking for the smallest dachshund possible, Iβm probably not the right breeder for you.
But if youβre looking for a healthy, beautiful, well-socialized dachshund with an amazing temperament, raised inside my home, loved every single day, and given the very best start in lifeβ¦
Then weβre probably going to get along just fine.
At Cherished Dachshunds, I donβt breed for the smallest number on a scale.
I breed for healthy dogs, sound structure, wonderful temperaments, and lifelong companions.
Because in ten years, your dogβs heart will matter a whole lot more than whether they weigh 10 pounds or 14.
