K9 Charo working the odor to source.
One of the most important things you can learn as a K9 handler is how to read your dog and when to let them work.
Changes in breathing, body posture, pace, and head movement can all tell you something about what your dog is picking up. The more you understand those subtle changes, the better you can support your dog without interfering with the search.
It's easy to want to step in, redirect, or rush the process. But sometimes the best thing you can do as a handler is pay attention, trust your training, and let your dog figure it out.
Your dog has the nose. Your job is to learn how to read it.
