Did you know a rabbit’s teeth never stop growing? 🦷 They grow continuously throughout their life — up to 3–5 inches per year! That means their teeth need to be worn down naturally through proper diet and safe chewing options.

Here’s why this is so important:

Hay is essential. A diet that’s at least 80% fresh hay keeps their teeth worn to a healthy length.

Signs of dental trouble include drooling, dropping food, pawing at the mouth, or changes in eating habits.

Routine wellness exams help us catch early signs of dental disease before it becomes painful or dangerous.

When overgrowth or sharp points develop, our team performs dental floats — a safe procedure to carefully file the teeth and restore comfort. Regular checkups and a hay-rich diet can help reduce how often your bunny needs this procedure.

Keeping those teeth in check isn’t just about comfort — it’s about your rabbit’s overall health and quality of life. Call us to schedule your bunny’s next wellness or dental exam today! 🐰

🦎 Reptile Nutrition 101!

Leopard geckos and bearded dragons are amazing pets, but they have very specific nutritional needs to stay healthy. In the wild, they rely on a variety of insects and plants — and recreating that balance in captivity is key to preventing health problems.

Many reptiles are prone to metabolic bone disease (MBD) if they don’t get the right balance of calcium, vitamins, and proper lighting. That’s why gut-loading insects and dusting them with supplements is so important, especially for growing geckos and young beardies.

For bearded dragons, their diet changes as they grow — protein-heavy when they’re young, then shifting to mostly veggies and greens in adulthood. Leopard geckos, on the other hand, remain insectivores for life and thrive on a varied rotation of crickets, dubia roaches, and occasional mealworms.

Regular wellness exams help us check for early signs of nutritional deficiencies before they become serious. Bring your scaly friend in, and we’ll help make sure their diet and husbandry are setting them up for a long, healthy life. 🐾

🐾 Meet Odi – Our Newest Heartthrob at Cedar Hill!

At just 8 weeks old and 13.4lbs of pure fluff, Odi came in for his very first vet visit today. 💛
We made sure he got lots of love (and a few treats) so vet visits start off as a positive experience.

✨ Behavior Tip: The earlier you introduce your puppy to gentle handling, new sounds, and friendly faces, the more confident they’ll be as they grow.
Bring them in for happy visits, let them explore the exam room, and reward them for calm behavior — it makes a world of difference!

Let’s give Odi a warm welcome in the comments — and share your own “first vet visit” photos below! 📸🐶💬

🐍 Welcome, Linguini!
Linguini is a 5-month-old corn snake who came in for their very first veterinary exam. Corn snakes (Pantherophis guttatus) are one of the most common and well-loved pet snake species, known for their docile nature and manageable care needs—making them a great option for reptile enthusiasts.

🩺 What Happens at a Reptile Wellness Visit?

During Linguini’s visit, we performed a full physical exam, which includes:

Assessing body condition and weight (Linguini is 12g!)

Examining the oral cavity, skin, eyes, and vent for any abnormalities

Discussing enclosure setup (temperature, humidity, substrate)

Reviewing diet and feeding frequency

Screening for signs of metabolic bone disease, dehydration, or improper shedding

🐍 Quick Facts About Corn Snakes:
Native to the southeastern United States

Non-venomous constrictors that typically reach 3–5 feet in length

Can live 15–20+ years with proper care

Require specific temperature gradients, humidity levels, and secure enclosures

Early veterinary care is key for young reptiles to ensure they're developing appropriately and that their husbandry supports long-term health. We’re glad Linguini’s family is off to such a great start!

🛑🐢 Meet Sq**rt! 🐢🛑
This 8-year-old, 80-pound African spurred tortoise (also known as a Sulcata tortoise) came in for his very first vet visit—and he made quite the impression.

We saw Sq**rt for shell rot, a condition that can develop when bacteria or fungus enters through small cracks or damaged areas of the shell. In his case, we’re treating a section of his carapace that showed signs of infection, and he’s already responding well to care.

🩺 What is Shell Rot?
Caused by moisture, trauma, or poor sanitation leading to bacterial or fungal infection in the shell

Signs include soft spots, flaking, foul odor, or discoloration

If left untreated, it can become a serious internal infection—but early treatment has a great prognosis!

🐢 Quick Facts About African Spurred Tortoises:
Native to the southern edge of the Sahara Desert

Can reach over 100 lbs and live for 50–70+ years

Known for being active, strong diggers, and full of personality

We don’t get to see patients like Sq**rt every day—it was a privilege to work with him and we’re happy to support his continued care!

The fabulous "Chickaletta" came in for a case of bumblefoot, a common condition where bacteria enters a small cut or sore on the bottom of a chicken’s foot and causes swelling and infection.

💉 She underwent a minor procedure to debride (clean out) the infected tissue from both feet. This helps remove the source of infection, reduce pain, and get her on the road to healing.

✨ And the best part? Post-surgery fashion! She’s rocking her custom cheetah-print foot wraps like the queen she is. 👑🐾

What is Bumblefoot?
A bacterial infection on the foot, often caused by cuts, rough perches, or hard landings.

Can become painful and serious if left untreated.

Treated through cleaning, wound care, and in some cases—like this one—surgical debridement.

How to Prevent It:
Keep coop bedding clean and dry

Use smooth, low perches

Check feet regularly for scabs or swelling

Our backyard poultry patients truly make some of the best companions! We’re so lucky to be a part of their care and honored to help them live happy, healthy lives.

🐾 Indie’s First Vet Visit! 🐾

Say hello to Indie – this sweet little gal was found in her owner’s backyard and is already stealing hearts! 💕 Last week was her very first vet visit, and she did so well (with plenty of snuggles, of course).

This time of year is what we in veterinary medicine call “kitten season” – typically spring through early fall in Ohio. Warmer weather leads to a boom in outdoor litters, and many kittens like Indie end up needing homes, medical care, and lots of TLC.

✨ If you find a kitten:

Check for a mama first – she may just be out hunting!

Keep them warm and safe – young kittens can’t regulate their body temp well.

Schedule a vet visit ASAP – early care is crucial to check for parasites, infections, and nutritional needs.

Spay/neuter is key – to help reduce the number of unwanted litters.

We’re so happy Indie’s story is off to a great start. Welcome to the family, sweet girl! 🐱💉🩺
