Very old or young dogs, short-haired dogs and dogs with a chronic health condition are least able to withstand cold weather and, just like humans, need extra protection to go outside in the cold, writes veterinarian Cynthia Maro. The field of honeybee medicine arose in 2017 with the FDA's requirement that veterinarians oversee the use of antimicrobials in food-producing animals, and the nation's veterinary schools are adding bee-specific courses to their curricula. Coronaviruses that affect dogs have been circulating for years, and while dogs could get infected with SARS-CoV-2 after close contact with an infected person, the likelihood that a dog will get sick is extremely low, writes AVMA past-President Dr. John de Jong. Nonetheless, people should take precautions to avoid passing SARS-CoV-2 to pets, including following good hygiene practices, social distancing, and caring for ourselves and our pets, Dr. de Jong writes.

With the massive outbreak of omicron cases, is it time to be more vigilant with our dogs or other pets? My husband and I are in day five of quarantine after testing positive with mild clinical sign…
