Today is Take Me Home Tuesday, and so we are featuring one of our rideable (and adoptable!) horses. Today we are sharing our spunky girl, Sloane!

Sloane is a 10-year-old Paso Fino mare with a spicy, boss mare temperament but, my goodness, she is oh-so-loveable! In October of 2015, we rescued Sloane as an orphan foal. Sloane’s mother died of malnutrition, and her owners were keeping her in a pen with a pack of dogs, feeding her bread! She was emaciated and wormy. We provided intensive care to this sweet baby, and she pulled through with flying colors. Sloane was raised by our rescue mare, April. They made a lovely mother/daughter pair.

Sloane’s rough start in life has not set her back in the least. She is confident, loving and playful. She adores people and craves attention. She is trained under saddle and is one spicy ride! Sloane is on the smaller side, measuring only about 14.1 hands, but she can carry a rider down the trails for miles with her super-smooth, Paso Fino gait! Here is a 30 day progress on 24 yr old Louie. He’s getting 8.5 pounds of high quality Purina Ultium Sr/ Pro Force Sr mixed feed, 1lb of rice bran pellets total a day in 3 meals,plus all the grass and hay he can eat. Go Louie!!

I hate to make posts like this, but sometimes, when you have a rescue organization like ours ....you do things you hate so the horses can have all that they need to be healthy and comfortable!
This photo is Ira Champ. He's a saint of a horse! Kind, willing, and smart. Recently, Champ had all of his X-rays done to make sure he will be capable of a new career. It was found that Champ has 2 areas on his spine that will need a ligament snip surgery.
We were already having problems with his feet, so he's now wearing clogs to aid in healthy foot growth.
We would like for Champ to be rehabilitating both his feet and spine at the same time. It will be less time with restricted exercise if we can do this for him.
However...a ligament surgery is not in our budget. Champ needs your help. If we can just raise even $2500. toward his surgery and rehab....it would help us a lot! And Champ won't have to go through 2 periods of restricted exercise!
He's happy and comfortable now with his new shoes, and our vet thinks he should be fine if this surgery is done while we are rehabbing his feet.
Please consider helping us to help him, as he is the sweetest saint of a horse and we want what's best for him!

It's Take Me Home Tuesday, and so we are featuring one of our rideable (and adoptable!) horses. Today we are sharing the oh-so-awesome Elvis!

Elvis is a 20-year-old buckskin Quarter Horse gelding who has too many fabulous traits to list! Cutting bred out of Bob Acre Doc bloodlines, this athletic boy has endless talents. Many years ago, Elvis was donated to The Pegasus Project by founder, Allyson DeCanio so the trainers could use him to raise babies, train colts, and pretty much serve as the head honcho around here. A favorite of Pegasus trainer, Don Knapp, Elvis spent his early years helping Don turn the young ones into productive citizens. Over time, it became apparent that Elvis was invaluable as the top dog in our largest pasture. He protects the new horses, disciplines the unruly ones, and generally keeps the peace. He’s the consummate benevolent dictator.

Elvis has always been a hot little number and way too much horse for the average rider. As a result, we have been thrilled to keep him at Pegasus to serve the needs of other horses. We would only allow Elvis to be adopted to a very experienced, confident rider under the most perfect of circumstances. Otherwise, he shall remain here with us. Forever.

It's Forever Home Friday! We are now featuring our companion-only horses because pasture ornaments need adoption too! Today we share our precious Bailey.

Bailey is a 28-year-old Clydesdale cross. In December of 2016, we rescued this gorgeous girl from her "rescuers," who had purchased her from a kill pen with no experience with horses. Unfortunately, they made matters worse, and we ended up saving Bailey from their benign neglect. As she started to gain weight and get healthy with our rehab, we realized that Bailey was pregnant. On June 9, 2017, she gave birth to the healthy and stunningly beautiful Cloud Jumper.

Once Cloud Jumper was weaned and separated from Bailey, we tested Bailey to see if she could be a riding horse. She is broke to ride but is inconsistent in her reliability under saddle. Given her advanced age and past hard life, we elected to allow her to retire with dignity. Bailey has proven to be a very kind, happy, healthy pasture ornament. She's sweet to all her pasture mates and lives a pretty glorious life just being Bailey. She loves to be loved and doted upon so she would make a great partner for someone in search of an affectionate 4-legged best friend. Bailey’s only vice? She’s needle phobic and takes special handling for injections. Bailey also needs to live on a grassy pasture because she cannot eat hay. She needs soaked senior feed and alfalfa hay to maintain her weight.

It's Forever Home Friday! We are now beginning to feature our companion-only horses because pasture ornaments need adoption too! ❤️ Today we share our handsome gent, Jett.

Jett is a 26 year old Quarter Horse gelding. In 2012 he was rescued from a bad situation in Florida by Tamara Hinson Robinson, who later turned to Pegasus to help this horse. Pegasus accepted Jett into our program in July 2013. We spent about 6 weeks getting Jett to proper weight, and then Pegasus trainer, Don Knapp, started working to build muscle tone through ground work. Once Jett was physically healthy, Don began working with him under saddle. Unfortunately, Jett proved to be very troubled when saddled, leading to extreme bucking. Our vet determined that Jett's spinal confirmation led to pain with a saddle and the weight of a rider. Poor Jett had been subjected to years of pain under prior owners and trainers. We put an end to that. Jett has spent the past thirteen years under our loving care. Each year he has become more and more loving and gentle, and he is 100% pasture sound.

We offer this lovely fellow for adoption as a companion horse only. If you are looking for a beautiful horse to love or to serve as a solid companion for another horse, Jett is your answer. He's sweet, engaging, and he loves attention. He has excellent ground manners. Jett can be a bit reactive, and so his adopter will need to have good horse-handling skills. He stands well for the farrier and he does nicely with vetting, but sudden movements can startle him. He's an excellent baby-raiser and can be trusted in the pasture with any gelding. He cannot share space with mares. This wonderful guy deserves to live out his life in peace, surrounded by a loving family. Jett would love to be adopted along with his BFF, Blazer (who we featured three days ago!)
