Cape Kitty Rescue

Cape Kitty Rescue About 10 years ago an effort was begun to reduce the feral cat population around our dumpsters. Since then, over 50 cats have been spayed or neutered.

Cape Kitty Rescue is a community organization dedicated to taking care of our neighborhood feral cat population, through Trap Neuter Return, feeding, medical care and community education, and rescue and socialization of small feral kittens. In 2012 it became evident that we had a much larger situation and that colonies in our various subdivisions were growing. Last year over 60 kittens were rescue

d, socialized and placed in permanent homes outside our community. We realized that a much more concentrated effort was needed, and Cape Kitty Rescue was born! In addition to the TNR for cats, and rescue and remove for kittens, we intend to undertake an intensive outreach and education program to cat owners, and those who care for the feral or abandoned cats to enlist their help with the spay/neuter program. Through this outreach and education, we also hope to STOP people from abandoning kittens and cats. We also want to reach out to people and work with them to prevent the level of frustration growing to the point that they resort to lethal means to deal with the cat population.

Houston PetSet once again showed that they care about San Jacinto County cats! Cape Kitty Rescue received a grant from them that will allow us to fund spay/neuter for cats owned or cared for by low income residents. Dr. Merry has a waiting list. Sign up BEFORE your cat gets pregnant! Call 409-782-4041.

The four bottle babies are ready for adoption. They are loving and playful. They never had any but a human mom so are very socialized and would make excellent companions. Three are short haired - 1 male, 2 females and one male is long haired. He is a ball of fluff. BB (purple collar) is male; Jane (no collar) is female; Pinkie Pie (pink collar) is female and long-haired, fuzzy Rufus is male.

Sometimes it takes a neighborhood to save an animal! This senior girl was found in the road with thunderstorms and rain all around. She wasn't moving too well. Cape Kitty was called. With help of a neighbor, she was transferred to a safe, dry cage. Flyers and media were employed, and with help of other neighbors her owner was located and a joyous reunion took place. She turned out to be a 19 year old housecat, much loved, who got out and got scared and couldn't find her way home. When a housecat gets outside for the first time, even without a thunderstorm, they are sometimes too frightened to respond to calls. Thanks to a neighborhood, this girl is safe and back in her loving home.

We are getting numerous calls about kittens. Unfortunately, our own personal health conditions do no allow us to foster at this time. We do, however, have our free spay/neuter program for cats of low income people in San Jacinto County. It's too late to prevent this crop, but we can prevent the fall crop. If you qualify, call 409-782-4041.
