Second Chance Pet Rescue

Second Chance Pet Rescue SCPR is located in Coeur d’Alene Idaho and rescues adoptable animals to help them find forever homes. There are many reasons why people adopt pets from us.

SCPR rescues adoptable animals to help them find forever homes. Many of our animals are rescued from local "kill" shelters where they may be just hours away from death. Some are purebred and some are mixes, but all these animals have plenty of love to give, if you will open your heart and your home. Sometimes we have just the pet they have been looking for and cannot find in their area. Sometimes

they like the information that we can provide about the pets we care for. Sometimes they like the fact that our pets have been cared for in a loving, healthy home environment and are eager to return that love. Sometimes they like the fact that we take the animal back if there is ever a problem. We make a lifetime commitment to our animals. They know that if they adopt from us and it does not work out, they do not have to face terrible alternatives. Also they like to know that the pet has had every medical need cared for before s/he is adopted. Others believe in our philosophy and want to help our animals. Whatever the reason we are very grateful to all of the people who have given such wonderful lives to our animals. We have a lifeline of vets, professional trainers and a groomer who are ready to help at any time. We want all adoptions to be a great experience for both you and the pet. When pets come to us they enter a safe haven where they are loved and cared for until their forever home is found. They become our priority. We give them a name if they don't have one, take them home and start loving them as they learn to trust again. Many of them require extra care. All of our pets have been affected in some way by their circumstances. Adopting a rescue pet means taking a possibly neglected, abused and definitely needy pet and making a sincere COMMITMENT to properly care for and love him or her UNCONDITIONALLY for the rest of their life. We are committed to finding the right home for our animals, and have developed our adoption policies based on our years of experience with rescuing and adopting out dogs and cats. Not everyone who applies to adopt will be approved. We do the best we can to match prospective adopters with the right animal. We get to know our animals well and are very successful with training and re-training for behavioral modification. When you get a pet from us, there are no surprises. We pride ourselves on being completely honest with prospective owners, so as not to unduly stress the pet by having it returned 2 or 3 weeks later. All of our animals are returnable for the life of the pet, although we have a very low return rate, because we take the time to match pets with people for the best possible life for both of you. We have medical care done by our very competent vets before adopting pets out. Our pets are adopted with full disclosure of known health conditions. Usually we pay more in vet bills for these pets than we recover in their adoption fees. The difference comes out of our pocket, another reason why we are very selective about the homes our pets go to. Any pet you get from us over the age of 4 months will be sterilized and current on all vaccinations. We also require that any currently owned pets be sterilized. Adoption Requirements
To be considered for adoption, you must:
• For renters, have a paid pet deposit, written landlord permission, and a one-year minimum lease.
• Have a fenced yard, or sizeable acreage with a containment system, such as field fencing or an invisible fence system, if adopting a dog.
• Be willing to have a home/yard inspection before adoption.
• Sign a legally binding adoption form/care contract at the time of adoption. Surrendering a Pet
There are many reasons people find themselves in a situation where they can no longer care for their pet. While we always try to help in these situations, sometimes we simply don't have the room to take the animal in. If you feel you are going to be in a position where you need to re-home your pet, timely action is the key. While we might not have room to take your pet into one of our foster homes, we can list your altered, fully vaccinated pet on our website and screen potential adopters for you while you wait for a space to open up. We cannot guarantee a space, as we are a group of private foster homes and do not own/operate a shelter facility of any kind. We will try to help you. Foster a Pet
We are always in need of foster families, so that we can save more animals. Rescued animals need temporary shelter, care and love while waiting for their forever families. Some need a few nights' stay until they get adopted, others need a home until they reach an adoptable age or recover from trauma. You supply a loving home and a second chance at life, and we take care of all medical care, adoptive family screening, advice and support.

**Available!**

Cooper is a 3-year-old neutered male Shih Tzu poodle mix. He was surrendered by owners who were having some health issues in their senior years and unable to care for him any longer. He has been regularly groomed every 3 weeks his whole life. He is very used to it. He can wear his hair long or short! He is reliably housebroken and is very friendly with all people. He's never been around children under the age of 10 but I don't see that being an issue. He's great with other dogs but has never been around a cat. He is small so I again don't see that being an issue. He is high energy and needs daily exercise. He also loves to go for rides in the car.

 🌸🌸ADOPTION UPDATE 🌸🌸

Who knows the story of Roxy and Reggie, formerly Norma and Bates? They were found living under a broken down vehicle and Roxie was heavily pregnant.
They were both set to be euthanized because they were deemed un adoptable. Scared to death and shut down, they wouldn’t even go outside to potty at the shelter. They just went where they were stood frozen.
They were reactive to anything near their head. Possibly because a catch pole had to be used to catch them. We agreed to take both of them. Since they had both came together and were most likely mother and daughter, we thought rehabilitation would be easier if they had each other. We were absolutely right.

On October 4, 2024 they arrived. A ton of work and learning to live with a family later……Roxie was finally adopted last week. To say that these two have my heart is an understatement. They have been absolutely an incredible labor of love and proof that animals can be rehabilitated and go on to live a full and normal life. Thank you to my new friend Caroline for seeing in Roxie what I saw and giving her a chance.
Caroline reports that Roxie is a great girl and settling in wonderfully.

Reggie is still looking for a home, preferably a quieter one with no cats and a secure fenced yard. She’s a lovely girl and so ready to fly like her momma. ❤️❤️

He’s doing great! Learning some manners but all is going well. He seems to be really happy and settled in already. We’re in love.

Your next hiking and running partner is right here. Anna is a spayed female German Shepherd who is guessed to be 2-3 years old. She gets along with all dogs of all sizes. Cats are unknown. No chickens though.
This amazing girl has come so far in rescue already. She’s smart and eager to learn your rules and ways. Anna is potty trained and kennel trained as well as can use a dog door. Must have a 6 foot fence or acreage. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to electrify the fence top and bottom. She only jumps our 5 foot fence if she thinks you’ve left her. She loves to play in water and would make an excellent camping partner. Give her a chance to show you everything she’s meant to be in this life.

Meet ADOPTABLE and available Milo.
He is a 7 month old mix breed pup. Hes definitely cute and has a wonderful, sweet personality.
He is here because his owners didn’t want him anymore and said they would shoot him. WHAT!? We couldn’t let that happen to this sweet boy!
He has been neutered, brought current on his vaccinations and microchipped. He loves the car and going for rides. He likes to sit on the center console so he can see out. He enjoys playing with the other dogs and being with his people. He LOVES toys and is learning all the things. Milo will be a wonderful addition Fri any home.

This is Dorothy, or "Dottie" as we like to nickname her. She is a 3 yr old spayed female purebred Australian Cattle Dog with a docked tail. She is a normal size girl at 45 and has a beautiful red roan coat. She is a very "soft" girl, ALOT of things frightening her. She lacks confidence. She is covered in scars. From what, is anyone's guess. She is ok with other dogs, but mostly stays to herself, she doesn't seek out dogs to play with and will actually hide from eager ones. She met the resident cat and went to sniff him and he whacked her on the nose and she bolted and said that's enough of that. So she could be fine in a home with cats. I generally say these dogs are not good with small children, but I think she could be in the right situation with the right kids. She doesn't have any bite in her. She's very gentle and kind, soft and apologetic. She's completely housebroken and walks really nice on a leash. She comes when she's called. She's crate trained and she hasn't barked once since she's been here, very quiet. She LOVES car rides and one of our volunteers has been taking her out kicking everyday this week. She's been very friendly and calm with every new person she meets.

*Available!*

Everyone meet Royal! She is a 2 yr old spayed female "Mini Heeler", a very small Australian Cattle Dog with a natural tail. She weighs 28 . She is cute as a button but she is as naughty as they come! I'm going to be brutally honest about her personality. She doesn't really like anybody or anything, until she does. And then she is crazy about you and lives for you. I'm not going to lie this dog's going to be difficult to find the right home for. She is just okay with other dogs. She doesn't attack them, but she doesn't want them near her either and she's not going to play with one. She is not good with cats. She goes right after them, quite viciously. She either loves you or hates you when she first meets you and it can be scary if she hates you. When she loves you though, she's the sweetest love, bug lap dog face licking loyal, listen so good off leash, plays fetch, tug of war and is completely housebroken. We're seeking a specific kind of home for her with someone who's more reclusive than outgoing. Someone who doesn't want to take a dog with them everywhere because she needs to be left at home. She is a definite bite risk to a stranger. She does best with someone with a calm, confident alpha personality. If you're afraid of her, or if you're aggressive with her, she mirrors. We are told she came out of a domestic violence situation and possibly learned to be very aggressive in her own defense or maybe the children's defense? She doesn't like new men or women equally 🤭 She's a tough one. She came off a owner surrender list from a shelter in southern UT that we work with. She never went in to the shelter system. They didn't have any chance to temperament test her before they sent her up or else I don't think I would have taken her actually! She was a handful on the transport up here but she didn't bite anybody! Lots of growling and snarling but no biting. So that's something! 💜
She's very athletic, active and has a shrill, very loud bark. You would never be attacked or robbed if this was your dog! If you feel like you have the right energy and experience and love this breed, fill out and app and we'll set up an appointment for her to taste you, I mean meet you! 🫣
