Four years ago yesterday we made the drive from The Woodlands all the way to Clear Lake to sign the papers, pay the adoption fee and make this little guy part of our family. It was not a decision we took lightly as we had made the drive a week before with our other dog, Maximus, to meet him. The truth is we loved him the moment we saw his photos and read his bio on PetFinder.org, but adding a new family member is a big decision, so we filled out the online application, got approved and drove a couple of hours or so with our dog to meet him. Elroy (the name his foster Mom gave him) was adorable and our dog liked him, but he was strongly bonded to his foster Mom and we wanted to be sure, so we made the very difficult decision to leave him where he was so we could talk it over and not make a purely emotional decision...knowing that someone else could take him home and that he would be gone forever. On the way home we talked about his very quirky-cute personality, his portability (important!), how he was crate trained and liked traveling in his backpack. We also discussed the size difference between him and our dog. Maximus is five times bigger. Would they play together? After lengthy discussions we decided that the Chihuahua we found online and met in Clear Lake was just too special to let slip away. He was already a part of our hearts and our family and any negatives we would work out. He was coming home with us.
Happy GOTCHA DAY little Poco, you man of many moods and fearer of thunder monsters! We love all five pounds of you and you are ours forever. ❤️
