Diamond Grit’s Knight alongside his son, Diamond Grit’s Mars.
This son couldn’t have a better father to learn alongside with, he won that lotto. Knight is hands down the best catch dog I’ve ever witnessed in person, and a great loving and patient dog to teach others. His son Mars has not disappointed one bit, he is every bit as gritty, fearless and serious about his job as his daddy. It’s very interesting to see how these working Cane Corso like our baby Mars can drastically change from being a puppy (which he still is), playing with the other puppies at home one second, to turning that switch on the moment it’s time to get to work, and he absolutely LOVES IT!

Mother (fawn) and Daughter (brindle). Ursa & Grizzly. When these two Cane Corso are not hunting, they’re patrolling the farm, always on alert. They share the drive and passion to work as the breed was designed to do. They don’t HAVE to, they LOVE to.

Diamond Grit’s Chili 🌶️- Cane Corso at 9 months old. Puppy life at the farm is a happy life. She seems to have an endless gas tank, so her favorite hobby is running and wrestling with her brother (Mars) until he can’t take it anymore 😆 I love the way she is developing, definitely has the phenotype I personally like for the type of hard work we do with our dogs. Good rear angulation, good length of body for speed and mobility for a big dog (which she will be), good length of muzzle and bite for biting/catch & hold work; she’s turning out great with a lot to offer to our Corso program moving forward. She’s also shown me she has the right temperament and instincts that we REQUIRE from any dog we breed here, but more to come on that later. As you all know, I like to show it more than just talk about it. Stay tuned! 🔥

Had a guest join us today on his first hog hunt, it was also his dogs first hunt. He’s not just any guest, but an extended Diamond Grit family member, so it was a pleasure to bring him and Gambit along for their first experience hog hunting. Gambit is from Ursa’s first litter, he used to fit in the palm of my hand once upon a time, and now he’s huge! 😮

Pictured here is a comparison of our stud male, Diamond Grit’s Knight - next to a Cane Corso named Basir. For those who don’t know, Basir is the model for which the Cane Corso breed standard is set after. Our program is rooted in the belief that the Cane Corso must first and foremost remain a functional working dog, capable of performing the tasks for which the breed was originally developed. Although we’re known to be a working line kennel, we do still recognize and value the importance of correct conformation and adherence to the established phenotype. Our primary focus will always be preserving the working standard—sound temperament, mind, physical capability, drive, and resilience, but whilst also preserving the phenotype set by the standard. The historical influence of foundational dogs like Basir serves as a benchmark for us to follow, whilst our current modern day Corso’s such as our Knight pictured here, are demonstrating that true breed type is not only continued to be seen in appearance, but also (and most importantly) in performance and purpose. By maintaining this balance—prioritizing working ability while upholding the defining physical characteristics of the breed—we aim to preserve the Cane Corso in its entirety, ensuring it remains both a capable working partner and a true representation of the breed standard for generations to come. This is what being a preservation breeder is supposed to mean (my 2 cents).

Oh, what a beautiful day ☀️ …
Puppy training day was a success ✅
Bay dog puppies got their first real world experience of a wild hog, just the perfect size for me to feel comfortable letting them work it with minimal help. Genie, our Blue Lacy dog, has always been my #1 puppy trainer 😆 She’s wonderful at getting the puppies to engage, rile their curiosity and prey drive all the way up, and showing them the ropes. Then I let Mars, the Cane Corso pup loose to let him hone in on his role as the catch dog, which he did phenomenally as well. He went to their bark, across the water, and engaged without a second of hesitation, doing his job at securing the hog to keep everyone else safe. This was a small hog, perfect size for puppy training but also not a piglet. I personally have never liked training any of my dogs on piglets or any hog smaller than the dog. I want them to have a joyful experience but also feel the danger and size difference. I prefer whenever possible to always keep it real with a real wild hog in the hogs environment, this imo will make them better hog dogs and prepare them to be safer when they’re up against a real monster later in their journey. This has always worked best for me. One of our bay dog puppies got bit pretty good because she got way too close and gritty, but even that is a great lesson for her to learn now on this small hog and not later on a big Boar that can be fatal. All in all, it was a beautiful day full of great experiences for the pups!

Father & Son duo - Mars & Knight.
Mars couldn’t have a more badass father to learn the ropes from than Knight. A very sweet puppy with a very serious side to him when it’s time to work, a lot like his papa. And just like his papa, he’s got that fire in his heart. 🔥

You know you caught a monster when you get to the dogs and the Corso’s look small next to the Hog. Some dogs earned a few new scars after this hunt, but all are good, in high spirits and eager to get back out there again.
Featured on this hunt: Knight & Grizzly (Cane Corso), Macho (Catahoula/Pit), Montoya (Cuban cur/Bull Terrier) and Mulata (Cuban cur/Pit).
