It’s officially fall on the homestead 🍂 We still have a lot of land to clear back here before we can plant a garden and acquire some chickens, but as it turns to fall, we are remembering that season will come eventually. In the present season, we can continue to make small steps to accomplish our goals of becoming more self sustainable and building a god honoring life. Here’s to the process!

We decided the first “homesteading skill” I (Abby) was going to learn was canning. I have checked out a handful of books from our local library, bought a canning pot from Walmart and have listened to podcast after podcast about the do’s and don’t’s.
What are your favorite canning books/recipes/tips?

There was a local plant sale fundraiser for some schools and clubs and we wanted to browse around for future ideas. Well, the future was a lot closer than intended. Do we know how to plant and tend berry bushes to actually get a harvest? No. Do I regret buying them? Also no. I just keep telling myself it was for a good cause 😅

Hi there! Let us introduce ourselves and share some of our story…

Our names are Jacob and Abby. We’ve been married for 5 years, have a small dog named Tucker and the new desire to homestead. 2 years ago, we bought a house on a quiet street in the back of rows and rows of neighborhood houses, not ever thinking one day we’d dream of owning chickens and growing our own food. But here we are.

We live in a suburb in northeast Ohio on less than half an acre of land, work full time jobs, are heavily involved in our church, have no practical homesteading skills or knowledge, make measly salaries but nevertheless are bound and determined to make the most of what we do have.

If you’re interested in learning how to homestead in less than desirable circumstances, or just want to see how many hilarious bumps we hit along the way, I invite you to follow along with us. Drop us a comment below and let us know you’re here ⬇️
