Monday The 13th. Doesn't sound quite as ominous as Friday The 13th now, does it? You know, as bad as the weather has been this week somehow it is going to be even worse in the coming days. Brutally cold are the words that are being thrown about to describe the weather coming our way - and yet I think I know one family who are about to experience a warmth like no other, a heatwave if you will, for they have adopted Aslan and will bring him into their home this coming Monday. For Aslan, I hope that he is home for good. I know the blessing that will surround this family, I know the joy and happiness Aslan will bring to their lives everyday. From a time I worshipped the ground Mark Knopfler stood on, from the very first film he ever scored - and quite an enjoyable film at that. A time just before the band took over the world with "Brothers In Arms," and one in which I wished so badly to be able to see them in concert, but they just never managed to sell well enough to tour here much. If you ever listen to Dire Straits, if you find that you enjoy what you hear - there is a live album from this time entitled "Alchemy," and this is the song that closes the evening. I hope so much that this will close out my quest to help my friend find a home. I think it will. For my buddy, Mark Knopfler and "Going Home."

"Going Home" is taken from Mark's debut soundtrack album composed for the film Local Hero directed by Bill Forsyth and starring Peter Riegert, Denis Lawson, ...

I'm still sitting here this morning hoping that Aslan's meet will turn into an adoption - and it very well may! I'll send you off to your weekend with a picture of two friends of mine. Obviously, you know my friend on the right but please say hello to as big a friend and advocate of Aslan as I. Lauren has helped Aslan more than I have in his time at the kennel and I could never thank her enough. By the way, that's my buddy's favorite toy.

My buddy, captured on video out in the snow with me yesterday afternoon. You know, Aslan had a meet yesterday afternoon (and I think another request coming up) and it just happened to be after our time together. The gentleman interested in Aslan actually saw the two of us walking together as he drove into the kennel's lot. I happened to be heading out our front door as he was heading inside -through the community room door - and to the start of his meet. There was something I sensed in the gentleman in that very short amount of time that told me he'd make a good friend for Aslan. I'm not sure how the meet went, but I hope it went well and I will keep my fingers crossed for my friend.

To me, that's the look someone will see every time they come home to Aslan - captured in a photo taken of my friend yesterday. We had time together, some of it in the yard and then twice around the back property. My friend was so excited to see me. I only took a bit of a video in the snow that fills the play yard up - maybe I'll share that tomorrow, along with some other photos that were taken of Aslan yesterday. For today I think I'll simply share this one. God, this dog deserves the world. The happiest, most joy-filled dog I've yet to meet along my journey of helping at the kennel.

Good morning to you, perhaps good afternoon if you're a late starter. Today is the 6th of January - the start of the first full week of the new year, the first week I begin feeling in good health once again after dealing with a bit of a cold over the holidays. My friend Aslan, the beautiful and happy boy I've dedicated this page to helping, has found himself back at the kennel through no fault of his own. The family that adopted my friend are dealing with life's issues. They saw such good in Aslan, such as how wonderful he is with children and how perfectly house-broken he is. Nothing that I haven't shared about Aslan before but something that is good to hear. In the time Aslan spent with us, a fellow volunteer had him stay overnight or two and she saw all the same in him and more. I've found these photos below, taken yesterday afternoon in one of our play yards by a fellow volunteer, and I what I see in them is everything I know about Aslan. The most amazing bundle of joy you could ever ask for and I'm grateful that his return hasn't diminished that spirit. I'll see him this afternoon and will do the best I can to ensure that his journey doesn't take any of all that is so good about him away. Will you help me today, tomorrow - for however many days it takes - find this beautiful boy his truly forever home?

My Christmas present came early. Aslan was adopted, the gift I'd hoped so much for. I find myself thinking of a summer day and an event I knew that my friend was coming to and I see myself walking out to the street to meet him - I knew how excited he'd be to see me, and I didn't want him to pull too hard as his handler walked them across a city street and through a bit of a crowd. I can't believe that in time Aslan became our longest resident. I'm thinking of how unique championing Aslan has been for me - for I watched an overwhelmed and scared dog blossom to become the happiest and most social dog residing at the kennel. Aslan loved play group so much and did so well in it. I didn't walk him every day, and more often than not I used other's photos of him when I posted on this page. Oh, I never let more than a few days go by before I said hello again - but with Aslan, I let more days pass in between posts than I let for any dog I'd created a page for. It's funny, but I'll always smile when I think of the way we said goodbye. I was walking a dog in the back of the property yesterday morning and Aslan was out in one of the two play group yards. I looked up to see him propped up on his hind legs at the back fence of the yard. Looking right out at me, his tail wagging like crazy. Barking and barking, so happy to see me. I called out to him again and again, saying good morning. Hi buddy. You're going to be playing with your friends, I told him. Aslan just kept following me as I walked the dog I was with, following along the back of the fence first before he ran along the fence that lines the side of this yard. I just kept saying hello to him. He went up to the gate, all the time that tail never stopped wagging. The happiest boy you can ever find, and I was lucky enough to have been his friend while he stayed in our care. Thank you for helping Aslan, for following this page, for sharing these posts. My wish came true.

I took Aslan out to a play yard yesterday and then out for a walk about the property. I think quite a bit of how he's grown while at the kennel, from the dog I couldn't help but see was a bit overwhelmed and afraid, finding himself looking out that glass door at me to a rather confident king of the mountain. Through it all I saw how much he loved life and running around like a goofball - and for all the good I've seen his time in play group has done him I can also see that he's been at the kennel for too long. Help me get the word out as this weekend's promotion / discounted adoption fee approaches. Share the good word on this wonderful dog I've come to champion and help find him the forever home he truly deserves. Thank you, Lauren, for these beautiful photos.

Every once in a while, I realize that time has gotten away from me - truth is, I fight time every day and sometimes let myself forget that truth for a few moments. I was just thinking that I haven't spent enough time with my friend Aslan, forgotten that my goal is to see him safely through his time at the kennel. To keep him that same dog I've grown to love as his time in our care grows longer and longer. Oh, I'm going to get caught up with my friend in the next day or so and perhaps even take him on an adventure to Edgewater this coming weekend - all the while hoping with all my might that someone finds all in him that I do and adopts him - but a video like the one below reminds me that even when I'm not around him, others who love him just as much are. My friend Lauren sent me this, taken yesterday in the Play Group. There's an adoption event coming this weekend - fees will be discounted to just $21. Keep my friend in mind, help to share the good word on Aslan. Enjoy watching his playful nature here.

Welcome to December and a month that I hope will see my friend adopted before it ends. Somehow, Aslan got to be the longest resident here at the kennel, and though I know he's in loving hands he needs to find his forever home. A friend and fellow champion of Aslan has gotten herself a new phone, and among the pictures she shared the other day were these two of Aslan - as well a one I think captures the love that these dogs see while in our care. That third picture below is one of City Dog Bowie with my friend outside in the play group yard.

My buddy got out for a run yesterday, but before Aslan headed out to Edgewater I had the chance to bring him out to our lobby and a Thanksgiving meal. If there's anything I wish for this holiday season it's that Aslan finds his forever home. He's such a special boy, so full of life and love (and, thanks to the kindness of my fellow volunteers, turkey as well).

There's about 15 seconds left in this video when we hit our groove - please understand that you may get dizzy while watching this, but I had to try and capture my buddy yesterday while we were out in a play yard. Aslan would catch the ball I bounced his way while it was still in the air and then run it back to me - each time he got close I'd hold up the next ball and bounce it his way. The ball that was in his mouth would roll naturally to me - thanks to his forward motion - while he'd catch that next ball, and so on and so on.
