Hi Everyone! It's been a long time since our last update, because we've been busy setting up in our new location.
But now we're happy to announce that we've gotten a lovely 1920s cottage-type home (some renovations pending!) with an extra-large yard that we'll be wild-crafting for the dog's enjoyment. Fences are up and we've done some of the initial removal of dangerous plants, but we have to wait until spring before we can really get the new native plants going or re-jump our chicken flock.
As many of you know, losing the old home to the fire was a massive blow, and required making very hard choices about which pack members could stay. We're currently down to just three (adult) dogs that live with us full time, and two dogs that are in amazing guardian homes. We count our blessings every day in one respect: despite being in basement-surfing and unhoused for over 9 months while searching for a new location, we weren't forced to compromise on the placement of any of our pack-mates. Everyone who had to go to a new home found amazing people.
So: expect to see new updates soon! You may remember that Ashi choose to conceive her last litter on the same day that the fire happened (before it started, we assume), and that we weren't able to consider a "keeper" at that time because of the situation. Much to our delight, however, she conceived a new litter within a week of coming home to the new place, and we now have a brand new "welcome home" litter.
There's some question as to whether this will be her last litter. We wanted to keep one of her daughters -- but she's all about having sons, so haven't had an appropriate keeper yet. Of course her health and welfare will always be the most important thing, so we'll see how she's doing in a year.
Q is still with us, but he'll be retiring as a stud whenever Ashi is spayed. Still a lot of uncertainty about where the program is heading in the longterm -- whether we'll move away from breeding or bring/keep a new pint-sized female to pick things back up.
Thanks for reading all this! Puppy photos coming soon.
