Today.
We have good news and bad news.
I cannot remember all the medical terms but I understand whats going on. So here goes
Good news: Eugene’s heart disease on one side has gotten so much better that he basically doesn’t have that kind of heart disease anymore (at the moment). The other side of his heart has improved alot also. As much as it possibly can. So he has that heart problem still but minimally at the moment. Dr. Cuyper’s said it’s very rare but this does happen. So, he is now a candidate for his full mouth extraction dental.
Bad news: the dental surgery is a full mouth extraction and has to be done by a specialist. With our non profit discount and the surgeon counting all his teeth as small teeth (as they are the least to extract) his oral surgery would cost $6,400 - $7,200.
Good News: his adrenal glands are the same as they were 6 months ago. One is enlarged w “something” on it and the other is very small. But they have not changed. So, we’ll take it. He does not have Cushings Disease at the moment. But, it could eventually develop.
Bad news: his gall bladder is continuing to get worse. We started him on meds and are changing his diet again. He is now on low salt AND low fat food. The meds only seem to help somedogs sometimes. We will see if they help with him. The only fix for the gallbladder is removal. That surgery is $5,000 and is not recommended at this time.
Bad news: today’s bill was $450 more than I figured because he needs an echo and an ultrasound to look at heart, gallbladder, adrenal glands etc. I knew this but in my head I was thinking just echo. And his new gallbladder medication.
We are keeping him on his med for his hypertension and starting him on the other med to hopefully help his gallbladder. We need to check the gallbladder in another 3 months.
They are strongly suggesting the mouth extraction because of the infection in his mouth. His teeth are literally rotten. He recently finished his 3rd round of antibiotics in 6 months to help w the infection. We won’t put him on anymore for a while.
I’m torn about the dental. We don’t have the funds. And there are still alot of risks involved. That being said, I’ve done full mouth extractions and major dentals on senior sick animals in the past and the change in their personalities (playing with toys, overall deameanor) and their overall health was incredible. It made me realize how sick the rotten mouth was making them.
Its alot.
