Our little tripod boy did well overnight.๐Ÿ’™
He is eating, peeing and pooping which is great but he is clearly still in alot of pain. He cries out when he moves and needs cuddled to get him to stop. Due to his extreme pain and the next availability at our vet not being until next Tuesday, we consulted with our exotic vet at Montgomery Animal Hospital and they can get him in first thing tomorrow to take the painful, broken, degloved leg off.
They sent us an estimate and it's no cheap procedure. We are looking at roughly $1,200-1,600 tomorrow.
We desperately need donations to help save his life and get him pain free as quick as possible.

We had three new pets go to the vet yesterday.๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ’œSailor is a rabbit who was found as a stray with a wound on her face. We aren't sure what happened but we know there's still another rabbit out there, so it could have been from a fight. Luckily, it seems to be her only wound. She's on the thin side and is drinking and urinating alot but we sometimes have strays struggle with this when they were deprived of food and water. We hope to get her on the mend and ready for adoption as long as she heals and stays healthy.

๐ŸฉทSugar and Paprika are two year old mice who were surrendered to us in really rough condition. Their owner reached out to us to help get them the care they needed. Both girls have uri's, wounds all over, and Paprika has eye ulcers. We started antibiotics, eye drops, and revolution. Their prognosis is guarded, but it never hurts to try so we will do our best and hope for healing. If treatment does not improve their life, then we will have to let them go peacefully. So far I am seeing some improvements which is good. Sugar is all white, super thin but the sweetest girl. Paprika is a big chonky brindle and has alot of opinions so we are working through our differences to get meds in her.

Our new kitten is back home resting after such a traumatic day.
He was found by someone feeding colony cats when a momma cat came up to them carrying a severely injured kitten. The rescuer contacted their friend who referred them to us. They said his leg was nearly severed.
TW (injuries):
The kitten was brought straight to our vet and here's what we found:
-his front left leg is broken and degloved
-his left rear foot had two toes hanging off
-his tail was cut in half and hanging by a thread
-he might have damage to his abdominal wall, but so far we don't see any internal organ injuries.
We gave stong pain meds, sedated him, took x-rays, made sure he was negative for fiv/felv, and then cleaned and bandaged him.
The vet ended up removing the dangling toes and section of the tail to help him become more comfortable. We aren't sure exactly what happened but it appears to be from something mechanical like a car or lawnmower.
He will need an amputation of his front left leg but the next availability doesn't seem to be until a week from now. He's mostly just sleeping and waking up to eat but occasionally cries out in pain. If his pain doesn't seem well managed then we really want to get his amputation done sooner (most likely VEG), but it will be much more expensive. We really need roughly $700-$1,000 as a minimum for his surgery, more if we go to an ER.

A critical kitten is on it's way to us right now! We need emergency donations ASAP. The only info we have is that the kitten is roughly 8 weeks old and his leg is "nearly severed off". We are getting it evaluated at our vet in less than an hour, but are unsure if we will need to go to VEG for emergency surgery.

Meet Peaches and Almondine! These two lovely ladies are about a year old and ready to find their forever home.

Peaches has a beautiful brown and orange coat. She is more outgoing then her sister and likes to sleep out in the open. She is always the first to let off the piggie alarm when a treat is incoming.

Almondine has a cream and white coat. She is more timid but doesn't mind hanging out with you if you have treats for her. She likes to sleep in her cozy tree trunk hide.

Both girls love oxbow timothy and vitamin C treats along with leafy greens. They are a bonded pair so they must go home together. They are easy-going so they may do well with other females too.

Our adoption fee for a bonded pair of guinea pigs is $50.

Meet Caramel & Mocha! They are young male guinea pigs estimated to be about 3-5 months old.

Caramel is fearless, he likes to climb on top of the pigloos and jump between them. He is starting to become very vocal and is easy to hold. He loves lettuce, cucumbers, and treats!

Mocha is shy but is starting to come out of his shell. He is quiet, calm, and also easy to hold. He loves peppers and is glad that Caramel doesnโ€™t because he gets to eat them all.๐Ÿ˜†

Both boys are friendly and will take food and treats by hand. They are still scared of being touched but will come right up to the bars to sniff (and try to nibble) my hands. Theyโ€™re social little guys, especially Caramel!

They are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Our adoption fee for a bonded pair is $50.

Meet The Retro Rock Rats! These 8 boys have cleared their quarantine period and are ready to rock and find their forever families. These boys range in ages from 2-6 months old. They were tranfered to us from our friends at Lollypop Farm in NY. They are all VERY friendly and crave attention. They love to play and will wake up to interact if you talk near their cage. They love taking treats and wrestling with their brothers. They are all pretty young so they should be pretty easy to bond with other male rats.
Right now we have them in two groups so we would prefer adopters to pick rats to adopt from the same groups. Our rats must be adopted in pairs as a minimum but we always say more rats is better.

Group 1: Pink Floyd (albino rex), Reo Speedwagon (albino), Fleetwood Mac (grey w/white blaze), Foreigner (albino), & Led Zeppelin (black hooded).

Group 2: Genesis (albino), Ramone (albino), & Boston (dark grey).

Our adoption fees for rats are $20 for one and $10 for each additional rat.

This was a long awaited post but look at these amazing beds that were donated to us from Sleep Sweet Pet Beds ๐Ÿ˜
I am obsessed with the quality and design options for these beds. They have a thick cusion center along with the typical two pillow design to keep your rabbit smooshed and cozy. It feels like a hug! Last Tuesday June 9th, we said goodbye to our sanctuary mouse, Chip. ๐ŸŒˆโค๏ธ

She had been adopted and returned once she had a fast growing tumor on her armpit area. Luckily, we were able to remove the mass last December instead of euthanizing and she lived an additional 6 months before the tumor began to overtake her once again. She began loosing weight and her one tumor turned into multiple so we knew the best thing we could do was let her go peacefully. She didn't cross that bridge alone though, she was bonded with some of my personal mice and one of her friends, Flurry, had been having difficulty breathing with no improvement after antibiotics. They fell asleep together and left this world together. Both embraced by eachother. I'm sad but happy that it happened this way since Chip prefered her mousy friends over human interaction.

Six more months is about 20-30 more years in mouse life so I'm happy our rescue could give her that. She was always such a spry little girl. We refused to euthanize her six months ago and opted for surgery because she acted like the giant tumor didn't effect her life at all. Even up until we laid her to rest she was spry and active but continuing to loose weight and having the tumor starting to rupture was not something we could let her live with. She low-key hated me and that okay, she knew me as "the lady who made me get surgery and gave me medications" but she loved her friends so much. She was always piled up cuddling with her besties or climbing about.

โš ๏ธAttention West Chester/Cincinnati residents.โš ๏ธ There have been two POSITIVE rabies cases in bats in Butler County within the last three weeks. This is an extremely fatal disease so please make sure you are taking proper precautions to keep your pets and yourself safe.

Do these things to help save you and your pets life:
โค๏ธMake 100% sure all dogs, cats, ferrets, and livestock are up to date on their rabies vaccines. Even if they are indoor only, bats can sneak into your home.
โค๏ธDo not touch any wild animal OR feral stray animals without consulting local wildlife or rescue resources. Opossum are the only species local to us that cannot get rabies.
โค๏ธIf you have a problem with wildlife getting into your attic or home, call a professional and fix the breach asap.

If you do not take these precautions, it could turn out horribly. If your pet is not vaccinated against rabies and is under suspicion of being in contact with a rabies positive animal, the ONLY way to test your pet is to euthanize them, cut off their head and send it out for testing. It sounds horrific and it is but a rabies outbreak is even worse with a 100% death rate once symptoms appear.

If you have been bitten or scratched by a wild animal, seek medical attention asap. Waiting for symptoms to appear means certain death.
If your pet is up to date on rabies and has been bitten or scratched, seek vet care immediately and quarantine that pet from any human interaction until the vet says they are safe.
