FIVE (5) YEARS STRONG! The 5th Annual Texas Unified Mounted Patrol Training was a resounding success. Mounted Patrol International and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo sponsored this 3-day event, consisting of 2 days of mounted patrol training and 1 day of competitive fun. We hosted distinguished guest speakers from the Boston Police Department (Retired), Texas Department of Public Safety (Retired), SOOFA Ranch, and Harris County Sheriff's Department. If you are part of a mounted patrol unit in Texas or surrounding states, plan to attend next year. It promises to be even more impressive.

Trish is riding Okan StormChaser in a 3-day Mounted Patrol Certification clinic April 14-16, 2025. There are over 40 horses and officers from all over the state attending. Chase sure is a fancy prancy gal!

Did YOU Know?
When horses are born their hooves are covered with rubbery finger-like projections. Their scientific name is eponychium, also commonly known as “fairy fingers” or “golden slippers”. Their purpose is to protect the mare’s uterus from damage during pregnancy and allow the foal to safely move through the birth canal.
Foal slippers are deciduous structures, meaning they will fall off when no longer needed. This is a gradual process that usually takes 24 to 48 hours. They begin to harden up almost immediately after the foal is born. As the foal starts walking, the slippers gradually wear down to reveal the hard hooves we are all familiar with.
All hoofed animals are born with the eponychium.
