Meet Noodles! 🍜🐾

At around 14 years young, this sweet Shih Tzu mix is the ultimate social butterfly and a certified mama’s boy. Between his adoring upward gaze and having the cutest belly in the house, he knows exactly how to settle in and claim full lap privileges wherever he goes.

Senior pups bring a very special kind of comfort into a home—especially the ones who simply want to be right where you are. 💛

A quick update on our little man: Noodles was recently diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. While it isn’t curable, it is manageable! To keep him feeling comfortable, happy, and living his best golden years, he’s starting on a long-term care plan that includes daily medications, routine monitoring lab work, a specialized diet, and some much-needed dental work coming up.

Providing this level of dedicated, hands-on care is at the very heart of what we do at The Gray Muzzle Project—and we couldn't do it without community support.

New Intake Update: Welcome to sanctuary, Muffin. 🩺

Muffin is approximately 14 years old and came to us following a severe neglect case where she was left behind in an abandoned home. When discovered, she was severely emaciated, matted to the skin, with full dental decay and advanced eye disease.

A huge thank you to Pawsitive Animal Impact Rescue - PAIR for handling her critical first-response veterinary care—performing dental surgeries, initial lab panels, and urgent eye procedures—before transferring her into our specialized long-term care program.

Current Health Assessment & Ongoing Care Plan:
• Diagnosis Update: Confirmed Addison’s disease, requiring ongoing hormone replacement therapy and routine blood monitoring.
• Mobility & Comfort: Hip and spinal pain management to keep her comfortable and mobile.
• Sensory & Cognitive: Advanced cataracts, reduced hearing, and canine dementia managed through low-stress routines and cognitive nutritional support.
• Rehabilitation: Comprehensive nutritional rebuilding for her coat, skin, and body condition.

Every single senior dog deserves a place where they feel completely secure, cherished, and at peace. For dogs with complex medical needs or hard histories, finding that sense of safety can change everything. This is the promise and longterm committment made to each dog accepted into our care. For this reason Gray Muzzle residents that find their way to the sanctuary are not up for foster or adoption.

We all know senior dogs need extra love and TLC, not just because they’re getting older, but because their bodies are genuinely changing. 🐾🤍

Our hospice vet takes these unique shifts into account with every gray-whiskered patient:

🦴 Joints & Mobility
Joint degeneration and loss of muscle mass happen gradually over time, causing stiffness, chronic pain, and weakness. A slower lifestyle can actually increase stiffness, making standing or long walks harder.

👁️ Senses & Cognitive Health
Age-related hearing and vision changes set in (often distinct from cataracts), and cognitive decline or "doggy dementia" can alter sleep-wake cycles, house-training habits, and routine memory.

Hi, I’m Noodles! Welcome to my kitchen. 👩‍🍳🐾

My mom is totally obsessed with healing through whole foods, so I graciously volunteered to be Chief Taste Tester for our sanctuary residents. I can confirm: this batch was made with extra love! 💕

Want to spoil your own senior pups or rescue pets? These Nutrient-Dense Clean Treats are super easy to make at home:

🥣 Ingredients:
1 lb ground meat
1 egg
👩‍🍳 Instructions:
Mix ingredients together in a large bowl.
Roll into small, bite-sized treat balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake at 350°F for ~25 minutes (or until slightly crispy on the outside).
Let cool completely before serving to your eager assistant! 🐕
📌 Storage: Keep fresh in the fridge for up to 7 days, or freeze for up to 3 months for a quick snack later!
